Hoy muestro a través de fotografías sin contexto algunos detalles arquitectónicos del Edificio de Capillas de la Funeraria Monumental, Cementerio del Este, La Guairita, Caracas, Venezuela, diseñado entre 1996 y 1997 por el arquitecto Francisco Bielsa con la colaboración de Althemar Iglesias, Elena Dayoub, Jorge Sánchez y Bernardo Mora. Greetings community! Today I show through photographs without context some architectural details of the Chapel Building of the monumental funerary, Cementerio del Este, La Guairita, Caracas, Venezuela, designed between 1996 and 1997 by the architect Francisco Bielsa with the collaboration of Althemar Iglesias, Elena Dayoub, Jorge Sánchez and Bernardo Mora.(Source)

[ESP] Este es el lugar en donde velan a los muertos antes de ser quemados o sepultados, se puede percibir una atmósfera gris de tristeza, pero con la serenidad de un escenario que invita a conservar el decoro, la calma y el silencio.

El techo es alto, de más de 3 pisos, el viento atraviesa toda la planta, por lo que es bastante fresco, considerando además que el Hatillo es un municipio con un clima frío y de neblina durante algunas épocas del año.

[ENG] This is the place where the dead are veiled before being burned or buried, can be perceive a gray atmosphere of sadness, but with the serenity of a place that invites to preserve decorum, calm and silence.

The ceiling is high, more than 3 floors, the wind passes through the entire plant, so it is quite cool, considering also that 'El Hatillo' is a municipality with a cold and foggy climate during some times of the year.

[ESP] Es un edificio con un concepto bastante sencillo, pero la calidad constructiva es impecable, la estructura metálica en conjunto con los paneles de vidrio dan un aspecto de ligereza y frescor. Personalmente me parece curioso de la estructura, la combinación elementos circulares con elementos rectangulares.

En el edificio hay 6 capillas principales, 2 baños en PB y una zona de cafetín, 3 pisos más arriba, anterior a la terraza, está ubicada la parte administrativa.

[ENG] It is a building with a fairly simple concept, but the constructive quality is impeccable, the metal structure together with the glass panels give an aspect of lightness and freshness. Personally, I find curious about the structure the combination of circular elements with rectangular elements.

In the building there are 6 main chapels, 2 bathrooms on the ground floor and a cafeteria area, 3 floors higher, before the terrace, is located the administrative part.

[ESP] Tengo varios recuerdos en este lugar, cuando era pequeño perdí varios seres queridos, mi abuela, mi abuelo, tíos, siempre nos quedábamos hasta la madrugada junto a la familia. En el cafetín había una máquina de Nescafé, esas noches me tomaba tantos Mocaccinos como pudiese, a veces 10 o 15, es como un café con chocolate, y además le ponía azúcar. Otras veces me iba a caminar por ahí, los cementerios, por supuesto, son un lugar que llama mucho al pensamiento sobre la vida y la muerte.

[ENG] I have several memories in this place, when I was child I lost several loved ones, my grandmother, my grandfather, uncles, we always stayed until dawn with the family. In the cafeteria there was a Nescafé machine, on those nights I would drink as much 'Mocaccino' as I could, sometimes 10 or 15, it's like a coffee with chocolate, and I also added sugar. Other times I would walk around, cemeteries, of course, are a place that calls a lot to think about life and death.

[ESP] Hace poco terminó la construcción de un edifico a lado de este, cuenta con otras capillas, más de 8 dispuestas en 2 pisos. Los materiales que usaron no son los mismos que en el otro edificio, pero conservan ese aire de calma y prudencia.

Concreto, cerámica, vidrio y metal, en un conjunto con ventilación a lo largo de toda la planta y con un piso bastante reflejante que aprovecha la luz natural.

[ENG] The construction of a building next to it finished recently, it has other chapels, more than 8 arranged in 2 floors. The materials they used are not the same as in the other building, but they retain that air of calm and prudence.

Concrete, ceramic, glass and metal, in a set with ventilation throughout the entire floor and with a highly reflective floor that takes advantage of natural light.

Puedo ver como muchos se refugian en la religión, en donde sienten consuelo y recobran su esperanza, me parece algo positivo que las personas puedan conseguir calma. Yo encuentro calma en aceptar la naturaleza y sus leyes, en apreciar lo mejor de la vida con felicidad y afrontar con fuerza las situaciones difíciles.

I can see how many take refuge in religion, where they feel comfort and regain their hope, it seems to me something positive that people can get calm. I find calm in accepting nature and its laws, in appreciating the best of life with happiness and in facing difficult situations with strength.
