Motivado por la celebración el día del niño, estuve pensando un poco sobre la realidad interna que tenemos cada uno de nosotros, y cual podríamos definir como el punto que diferencia a un adulto de un niño.

Una forma de diferenciarnos es a través de los cambios que tenemos en la pubertad, como algo en el cuerpo más grande o el cambio en la voz, o musculatura más prominente. Pero ¿Son estos los únicos cambios que nos diferencias a los adultos de los niños?.

Algo que nos diferencia en gran medida y puede ser la razón por la que una persona adulta puede verse diferente a un niño, es por la experiencia en distintas áreas de la vida, por ejemplo se puede esperar que un adulto tenga más experiencia en el campo laboral, o hasta en el familiar (relaciones románticas), que son áreas en las que no se podría esperar tener una conversación profunda y fluida con un niño, ya que a estas edades no debería tener experiencia que fundamente lo que hable.

Pero más allá de esto parece ser difícil ver la diferencia entre un niño y un adulto, porque aunque se esperen cosas distintas de nosotros cuando tenemos una edad mayor (como una familia, un trabajo o propiedades, o hasta habernos ido de la casa de nuestros padres), la realidad es que internamente seguimos siendo niños.

Seguimos teniendo deseos de lo que significaría crecer, aunque ya no como adultos, sino como empresarios o como pareja, seguimos siendo inocentes en lo que no conocemos, y en muchas veces seguimos comportándonos como se esperaría que se comportara un niño, al ser creativos o comportarnos de formas que “no se esperarían en adultos”.

Ser adultos no significa renunciar a nuestro niño interior, ser adulto significa tener un balance entre lo que quiere nuestro niño interior y lo que se exige de nosotros en nuestro entorno. Nunca debemos dejar de complacer a nuestro “yo infantil”, no debemos dejar la “inocencia” de lado, y sobretodo no debemos dejar de divertirnos como niños.

La vida es muy corta como para ser muy serios

Motivated by the celebration on Children's Day, I was thinking a little bit about the inner reality that each one of us has, and which we could define as the point that differentiates an adult from a child.

One way we differentiate ourselves is through the changes we have in puberty, such as something bigger in the body or the change in our voice, or more prominent muscles. But are these the only changes that differentiate us as adults from children?

One thing that makes us very different, and may be the reason why an adult can look different from a child, is because of experiences in different areas of life, for example an adult can be expected to have more experience in the field of work, or even in family (romantic relationships), which are areas where you would not expect to have a deep and fluid conversation with a child, since at these ages he or she should not have experience to base what he or she is talking about.

But beyond this it seems to be difficult to see the difference between a child and an adult, because even though different things are expected of us when we are older (such as a family, a job or property, or even having left our parents' home), the reality is that internally we are still children.

We still have a desire for what it would mean to grow up, although no longer as adults, but as entrepreneurs or as a couple, we are still innocent of what we do not know, and in many cases we still behave as a child would be expected to behave, by being creative or behaving in ways that "would not be expected in adults".

Being adult does not mean giving up our inner child, being adult means having a balance between what our inner child wants and what is demanded of us in our environment. We should never stop pleasing our "childish self", we should not leave "innocence" aside, and above all we should not stop having fun as children.

Life is too short to be serious
