When Roger Waters Wished a 'Final Solution' on Holocaust Survivor Menachem Begin

The signs were always there...

In Pink Floyd's The Fletcher Memorial Home (1983), Waters expresses his frustration with some world leaders he calls "incurable tyrants and kings" and "colonial wasters of life and limb." And of course then (and best ever) Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin is one of those warranting a specific mention...deserving of the "final solution" at song's end.

Take all your overgrown infants away somewhere And build them a home, a little place of their own. The Fletcher Memorial Home for Incurable Tyrants and Kings. And they can appear to themselves every day On closed circuit T.V. To make sure they're still real. It's the only connection they feel. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Reagan and Haig, Mr. Begin and friend, Mrs. Thatcher, and Paisly, "Hello Maggie!" Mr. Brezhnev and party. "Who's the bald chap?" The ghost of McCarthy, The memories of Nixon. "Good-bye!" And now, adding color, a group of anonymous latin- American Meat packing glitterati. Did they expect us to treat them with any respect? They can polish their medals and sharpen their Smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for awhile. Boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead. Safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye With their favorite toys They'll be good girls and boys In the Fletcher Memorial Home for colonial Wasters of life and limb. Is everyone in? Are you having a nice time? Now the final solution can be applied
Bear in mind this is not so long after Begin forged the peace treaty with Egypt. Judging by the lyrics to another Floyd song (Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert), Waters detested Begin for the invasion of Lebanon - an operation meant to destroy PLO terrorist infrastructure on the Lebanese-Israeli border, which had been used by terrorists to attack IDF forces, as well as the Israeli communities near the border.

In other words, Waters thought Holocaust survivor Begin deserved a Final Solution of his own, all because he went into Lebanon to fight the PLO and prevent them from murdering more Israeli civilians and soldiers.

In other words, Waters has been a huge a-hole for a very long time - well before he hitched himself to the BDS wagon following his 2006 concert in Israel.
