The Perfect Splinterlands Card - "Mega" Defender - Equalizer / Up Close & Personal
Finding the perfect Splinterlands card is a challenging, but rewarding pursuit.
In this post, I will explain why I believe Enchanted Defender is the PERFECT last position card when the following rulesets are in play:
- Equalizer
- Up Close & Personal
Get To Know Enchanted Defender
Name: Enchanted Defender Splinter: Neutral Type of Card: Promo Ability: Thorns (Level 5 and above) Strength: Armor - Great for protecting against melee and ranged attack. - Awful against magic and emotional rejection. Enchanted Defender is tired of taller women being turned off by his short stature. He has a big heart that is easily broken. Don't let the armor fool you! |

Get To Know The Rules
In order to find the perfect Splinterlands card, you need to understand the rules of engagement.
EQUALIZER | The Initial Health of All Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health. | |
UP CLOSE & PERSONAL | Only Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles. |
This Monster + These Rules = Perfect Combo
With a high Armor value, Enchanted Defender is well protected against melee and ranged attacks under normal conditions. With the Equalizer ruleset, Enchanted Defender becomes "Mega Defender."
For this battle, my Enchanted Defender transformed from a Health of 1 to a Health of 10 (Base of 9 due to my opponent's Undead Rexx plus 1 more health because of my Summoner Lyanna Natura).
Since only Melee Monsters can be used in this battle (Up Close & Personal ruleset) there are only three points of attack.
- My Opponent's First Position - attacked by my first monster and second monster (with Reach ability)
- My Opponent's Last Position - attacked by Elven Cutthroat (with Senak ability)
- My Opponent's Monster with The Least Amount of Health - attacked by Screeching Vulture (with Opportunity ability).
With the Up Close & Personal ruleset, I both anticipated using the Sneak ability and defending against Sneak ability. At level 5, Enchanted Defender's Thorns provide great defense against Sneak attacks.
My Lineup (Before Rules Are Applied)
Rexxie | Orc Sergeant | Elven Cutthroat | Screeching Vulture | Enchanted Defender |
---|---|---|---|---|
Strong tank attack with trample. | Nothing is out of reach for this orc. | Watch out backline! Elven is coming. | The weak die when the vulture soars. | Nothing can break Mega Defender. |

Final Thoughts
Claiming to have found a "perfect" card is risky. A lot of variables have to fall into place:
- the right cards in your Splinterlands deck
- the right set of rules
- knowledge of how to apply those rules most effectively
And even if you never find the "perfect" card, the hunt for perfection brings a lot of joy and excitement (and sometimes frustration)!
Tell me what you think.
- Is Enchanted Defender the perfect card for this scenario?
- Can you think of a better card?
- What is your favorite Splinter?

Only real vulnerability here is Skeleton Assassin with poison. Even then, if he's also fielding an opportunist, that small health reduction will attract their attention and get them all thorned up.
@mattclarke - Thanks for stopping by! Your point about Skeleton Assassin is valid. Poison could be an issue.
Thanks for adding to the conversation. Much appreciated!
Haha, he is a bit short. Agreed, good back liner in some circumstances, and a cheapish card that is now OOP.
@slobberchops - Glad someone caught that line!
That is the beautiful thing about #splinterlands. All cards are good in some circumstances. The rules make all the difference. Thanks for stopping by!
