Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Tortisian Fighter

(Edited)

This weeks Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to play the Tortisan Fighter from the Water Splinter.

TBH I'd never used the Tortisian Fighter before, and maybe I've overlooked him - that shield ability means he's really got a total of 12 defense points, as long as yer opponent doesn't play magic, so with the no magic rule set, this could be one to look out for.

I've only got mine to L5, quite expensive for now to take him up to l8 where he gets armourer, one of my fave abilities!

Here's a little league battle in which he most definitely assists with the victory!

The Rule Set

  • Mana 29
  • Little League
  • Ranged attacks can be used in first position

Maybe not the best rule set for the water splinter, earth probably would have been better with the Earth Elemental high up the order, but I had a challenge to get through and water isn't too bad for Little League.

TBH The Tortisian fighter isn't the best fit for this rule set - with the magic option still on the table there are several magic monsters who could've killed him off in one blast - but I had a challenge to get through!

The Line Up

Thankfully my opponent didn't favour magic!

  1. Tortisian Fighter - not the best tank for the rule set, but I had this challenge!
  2. Elven Mystic Mainly for the silence, but afflict can also be a game winner!
  3. Medusa - stun is very useful!
  4. Naga windmaster - good damage and headwinds for 4 mana, a great card this
  5. archers - Blast is great for low mana battles, where health is typically lower.
  6. The crustacean - a water splinter no-brainer!

Did my strategy work?

Well basically YES - to see it in action click here!

After the initial buffing, it's looking good for me - he only has one card doing 2 damage - and that's the medusa, which will be healed every round. All of my opponent's ranged attacks get hexed to 1, useless against the Tortisian's shield ability!

  • Round 1- We trade blows, both our front row shields shattered!
  • Round 2 - my opponent's Turtle is the first to fall, then followed by his Medusa. By now it's fairly apparent I'm going to win, with my Tortisan having been healed back up to 3 health.
  • Round 3 - he loses his Pirate, crustacean and archers one after the other!
  • Round 4 - game over, I win!

How important was The Tortisian Fighter?

I was lucky enough that my opponent played only one magic card, and mainly ranged - and all of those were hexed down to one by Naga Windmaster and then nullified to zero by the Tortisian's shield ability, so in combination with the hex and insigificant magic from my opponent, he did well!

This battle offers a useful reminder of the importance of playing sufficient damage to get through the shield ability!

Do I use The Tortisian Fighter Often?

Not that often, but I will probably look to upgrade him so he picks up repair and then keep an eye out and possibly use him for any little league or low mana rule sets which include the following

  • No magic
  • Melee monsters attack from any position
  • Maybe even earthquake, with shields and repair?

Nice set up. I need to upgrade my crustacean king. That fortress thingy where it gives shield is awesome.

Thanks for sharing! - @xawi

hi nice battle and yes I gues we overlooked it. As long as there is no magic fear you can go with tortisian-figher with full confidence because of its shield ability.
