Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Flesh Golem!

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Flesh Golem

One of the more 'disturbingly' named cards in the Earth Splinter this is a pretty handy tank, and I have mine levelled up to what I think is the price-optimum level, which is level 8, where he picks up the Void ability, which is essential for maximising his tank utility.

At Level 8 he does 3 melee damage, has 11 heath which is pretty high, void and heal, and with speed three there's a reasonable chance for that heal to kick in between enemy blows so that he'll last more than a round or two.

His weakness, for a tank, is lack of shields or the 'shield' ability and he's also quite costly at 6 mana.

The battle below features a shielded Golem, backed up by repair and some extra healing too as the Flesh Golem needs supporting in order to survive!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • 44 mana - which allows for the Golem nicely
  • Only commons, again this suits the Golem as you can't use Lord A.
  • Silenced summoners - means you wont' be handicapped playing earth when you don't have any Legendary Earth summoners, which I don't!

Summoner - Lianna

  1. Flesh Golem - the main tank, good health and self heal very useful (assuming he lasts more than one round), but does need buffing!
  2. Centauri Mage - my latest 'levelled to optimum level-up' - a nice second place monster with return fire for snipe (which worked), decent health, also wanted the repair for the Golem.
  3. Khmer Princess - another buff for the golem and I always find triage useful.
  4. Sporcer - Mainly for the silence, but affliction is useful in high mana (and possibly high health/ healing) battles.
  5. Attica - my main damage card, only really possible in high mana battles.
  6. Tower Griffen - shields are great with the Golem

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - straight away Miticca takes out my opponent's Stone Splitter, good, don't like 8 damage and retaliate when arranged. The Shields/ repair combo already coming in very handy.
  • Round 2 - I take out my opponent's Rexie. It's also painfully apparent that his 4 snipe damage isn't going to work with my triage healing my mage in p2.
  • Round 3 - the magnificent Mticca's piercing ability takes out the Mech first off, then he loses his mage and Mantoid, already reduced to 1 health by Return Fire.

How important was The Flesh Golem?

Well he held up, but even with my opponent's weaker (mostly common) monsters without any buffs, and with extra healing, shield and repair, his health still reached 1 later on in the battle.

But this is really and advert for Miticca more than anything else - that 6 damage and piercing, monstrous!

My opponent did well to play double stun, but I think he made the 'schoolboy' error of choosing high mana cards to fit the high mana allowance - Rexxie and The Mech are both such, but they're just sitting there doing nothing for round one.

Had he put in a reach, ranged or magic monsters, even if lower mana, or just swapped out one of them, he probably would at least have got rid of the Golem at some point in the battle, especially with stun knocking out his healing capacity!

Final Thoughts: Flesh Golem - How to Use Him Most Effectively?

Just one thing to say - you have to buff him, give him shields, ideally repair and an extra heal in there too, and he might just be fine!

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

I'd like a maxed Flesh Golem, but he is pretty handy at level 8 as you say, with a bit of support from behind.

I have been levelling up my Flesh Golem recently. I needed something with healing in Earth for when magic was not allowed. Mine is only at L4, but has still proven useful. They are fairly cheap to buy, so I will keep buying when I have DEC. Got a few others I want to level up.

Very cool Fleshy Challenge post. Maybe not as stylish as others but you give some great thoughts about the card.
