Splinterlands | Desert Dragon | I Won With Just One Monster In The Team

Splinterlands | Interesting Battle

The game we will be discussing shortly is one of the most hilarious yet exciting games I have played in a long time. Why? Because of the monster involved and the way the game finished. I won, of course, but I wasn't expecting it. Why? Let me explain.

The game was one with a 14 mana cap, and if you are like me, you would think of getting some low mana monster with good attacks. Correct? Well, that is what I would have typically done, but not this time. I think I was a bit preoccupied, and I chose the most unlikely team there could be.

What did I choose? I chose the Byzantine Kitty of 7 mana cost and the Desert Dragon of 7 mana. That made my team of just one monster. After I hit the battle button, I instantly regretted the decision. There was no way I could win with just one monster and a high mana summoner.

Or so I thought. Wanna know what happened? I guess you do. But before that, how about getting to know Splinterlands first and then jumping on to the battle? After all, that's where you will find this awesome battle.

So, let's go.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too.

Desert Dragon | Lone Warrior

This battle was interesting in many ways. That's because:

  1. This was the first time I was using Desert Dragon
  2. I hadn't seen the Trample ability in action in any of my monsters before
  3. I had used a really high mana summoner for my battle and
  4. I inadvertently paved the way for me to lose the battle

And yet I won. You see, half of the problem was not knowing that I was going in with one giant battle winner. The Desert Dragon won the game for me on its own. Yes, the Kitty contributed by healing the Dragon, but still.

I can keep talking about it, but it's time to see the Dragon in action.

Face-to-Face With The Opponent | Ready for Battle!

And as I overlooked the battlefield, I got the impression that I was heavily outnumbered. 😊

Games2_DD_B1.JPG

Do you see that? I was playing with the Dragon Splinter, and my team appeared at the bottom of the screen. The opponent (or bot) was playing the Fire Splinter, with the team appearing at the top of the screen. Since Tarsa is the summoner for the opponent, all their melee monsters will get an increase in attack value.

My summoner comes with three benefits. The Desert Dragon's speed increases by two, making it the fastest on the battlefield and hence the first to attack. It also gives my Dragon the true strike ability whereby my Dragon won't miss, and lastly, it would be healed at the beginning of each round. That is a mighty advantage now when I write the article but not when I first played this game. 😊

The Battle Rages

As I said, the Dragon was the first to attack. Here is what happened.

Games2_DD_B2.JPG

The first monster was gone. But here's where the fun began. My Dragon attacked again. That is what the "trample" ability is all about - you kill one, you strike again.

Games2_DD_B3.JPG

See that? My Dragon attacked again. The sneak monster from the opponent's second position attacked thereafter but missed. So, we were on for the next round.

GG | I Won!

At the beginning of round 2, my Dragon attacked again. It finished off the opponent's tank.

And that triggered trample. And the second monster's shield was done away with in the second attack. To complete the round, the opponent's monster also attacked the Desert Dragon. This is how the screen looked.

By the third round, the Kitty healed the Dragon, and with the first strike, the Dragon finished off the opponent's sneak monster. And because the trample was triggered again, the final monster was also polished off.

That's it. I won!

Want To See The Actual Battle?

For those of you that are not happy with just the screen shots of the battle, here is the battle.

You can play it and see. I've got to admit that it is more fun that way! :)

And I Became A Fan of the Desert Dragon!

Honestly, I didn't know the trample ability had such a killer outcome. Each round, I attacked twice with just one monster. It was fun to watch the action. Just when the opponent finally got an attack through, my Kitty healed the Dragon. It was hilarious. There was no way the opponent was winning.

And to start with, I had resigned to a defeat, but here I ended up with a victory. This was too cool! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading the article. I hope it gave you a new way to use the Desert Dragon. Keep playing and enjoy Splintering! 😊
