Magic the gathering was the first card game I got into and the most memorable, however unlike a lot of others out there I did not get involved with the physical cards, never ahd enough money for that, but with the only versions they ran online for a very short time. It was a great game because you could unlock all the card through game paly and while you did not verse opponents the AI was pretty well set up. In fact to challenge myself , after winning, I would reset the game and only play as only color the whole way through 😊 What really drew me to the game was the how it was like a chess game, trying to out think your opponent and place your pieces in winning positions, however unlike chess there is also a massive amount of luck! If I had a dollar for each time I drew land after land after land !!!!

However magic only released a few seasons before they stopped, most likely because they released they were eating into their main profit the physical cards! So I then moved onto

Hearthstone

So then Hearthstone came along and for awhile it was fun, really fun, I was finally playing other players and you could earn cards through daily quests. I even put some money into the little adventures as they dropped some cards and where very fun. However after awhile two effect came into play, the first was as there is no limit to the types of cards you can paly ever game, no different rule sets, so people built uber decks that where almost unbeatable. Secondly you start to relaise that the game owns everything, you can’t trade cards and you cant sell them, all that time is stuck in the game and even worse they constantly changed the game, cards values and abilities to balance it. You start to realise you own nothing.

Then came Splinterland, which honestly has felt life the best mix of all worlds. It has the strategy of Magic and distinctive flavours of the different splinters, it has the quests and rewards of Hearthstone but most of al you own your time. Those card are yours, you can trade with others, the NFT are locked in. The game theme changes each game and makes each one unique. I find with Splinterlands myself reliving the most memorable games I have played, but in a format that has brought me personally the most joy to play.
