Splinterlands Weekly Challenge with Soulstorm
Hello Everyone,
https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/share-your-battle-weekly-challenge-soulstorm
How have you been battling out Splinterlands battles after recent changes with regards to introduction of Collection points?
It's been disappointing for me as I am lying at Diamond III from my usual position of Champions II or Champions III.
Fine, it's all for all, not just for me, but, hopefully, the next changes with regards to introduction of rewards for each tier will be bit of encouraging for me and many others.
Let's see a battle I fought with Death Splinter using Soulstorm, the theme monster for this week.
The win in the battle is much more sweeter for me because of the fact that, it came against a Legendary Summoner from Life Splinter Chanseus.
Soulstorm is a death splinter monster belonging to Untamed category and is a ranged attack monster which has good speed and gives 3 attack to start with.
Let's see few more details with regards to speed, attack and health the Soulstorm has with regards to each level.
As we see above, the monster has 3 ranged attack, 5 speed and 2 health to start with and attack can increase upto 4 while speed remains constant throughout.
Best part of this monster is it's abilities. It has 4 wonderful abilities in flying, snare, headwinds and stun.
Flying makes it having higher chances of evading the attack from melee and ranged monsters.
Snare makes it remove the flying ability from the monster it attacks.
Headwinds makes the ranged attack monsters to have reduced attack.
Finally, Stun ability makes the monster it attacks to get stunned and cannot participate in the battle in next round unless there is a monster with cleanse ability to cleanse it.
Lineup:
https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=36bff0fa86e2d56745d96cdbda5b7f4c69f838a5
I got this 34 mana battle with Close Range battle type and I just used Death Splinter to utilize the combination of a balanced attack it has with some good ranged attack monsters.
Here is my lineup:
Lord of Darkness:
It's one of the best monsters for me in Death Splinter and I just wanted to utilize that at the front. It gives a 2 melee attack (can increase upto 5 with enrage ability) and has good health of 8 with 2 armors.
Phantom Soldier:
Although I just have a level 1 monster of Phantom Soldier, I used this to have some high health monster in second position. It's 2 magic attack can be counted upon along with it's health of 8.
Boogeyman:
I use this monster for it's 2 magic attack along with the ability of slow to reduce the speed of opponent's monsters.
Twisted Jester:
I use this monster to check the second line magic and ranged attack monsters as this monster with snipe ability, attacks second line monsters.
Soulstorm:
This being the theme monster for this week, is special not just for that, but also for it's wonderful abilities although I just have a second level monster.
It gives 3 attack and has 5 speed and abilities of flying and snare for the level 2.
Creeping ooze:
I just wanted to cover the 1 mana left with using this monster as it also has the ability of slow just like Boogeyman.
Battle:
Round 1:
Like I said above, the win was sweeter one considering it was against a Legendary Summoner, my first such win!!!!
OK, The battle was a fierce one with Chanseus Summoner doing the things it normally does, that is, healing a monster and repairing another monster and in first round, Twisted Jester removed the Creeping Ooze from other side and summoner brought it back using one of it's abilities to bring back the dead monster.
The only casualty in this round was the Creeping Ooze from my side.
Round 2:
Round 2 was a better one for me since opponent los 2 monsters including the front monster Chain Golem and Creeping ooze(yes, this time it couldn't get saved :) ).
Round 3:
Round 3 was more destructive as opponent lost all 3 remaining monsters!!!!
In total, Lord of Darkness and other monsters did a good job to restrict the battle to 3 rounds that too involving a Legendary Summoner.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Well, I wasn't sure when I saw Chanseus the Great as summoner used by opponent, but as the battle continued, I felt more and more comfortable.
Yes, I can say it worked well for me with the lineup I used.
I don't know either there was any better lineup I could have used with my limited cards.
Do you use SOULSTORM often? Why or why not?
I use it a lot because it's among some of the cards among my limited collection which are of better speed and good attack ones.
That's all about this battle with it getting completed so fast!!!!
Thanks for reading and wishing you good day.

An excellent victory, great use of the Ooze to soak up that sneak, one miss, and the phantom to soak up snipe!

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 0/5)
Thank you, yeah, Creeping Ooze was helpful in rescuing the ranged monsters and even Soulstorm avoided the attack because of it's flying ability.
Appreciate the tipu curation.

Great Battle Challenge post and nice that the Sand Worm missed the Soulstorm in the final round. 😉
Yeah, a hit there with Soulstorm from Sandworm, it would have opened the gates for Sandworm to invade further from back end.
Thank you @monster-curator :)
