Hello Everyone,

https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/share-your-battle-weekly-challenge-child-of-the-forest

Happy to see some of the rare and unused monsters getting chance to be tested by Splinterlands battlers because of these weekly challenges.
No doubt, Child of the Forest was introduced long back, but not sure how many of us have used it actively for even few games.
I am someone who hasn't used this monster at all before today and I got to use it in few battles today for this challenge.

Child of the Forest is a Rare Earth monster which is a ranged attack monster with snipe ability which enables it to attack the magic and ranged attack monsters in the second line.
Although, not that great monster at lower levels because of lesser attack and health, it still can be used to utilize 3 mana cost and when it is leveled up, it can be one of the better monsters as the attack and health increases.

Below, we can see the details of attack, speed and health of this monster at each level and notice the 3 ranged attack with 6 health in Tenth level, which can be very handy given it just costs 3 mana and not to forget it's 5 speed which is constant through out the ten levels it has.

So, the team of @splinterlands has decided this to be the theme monster for this week and we gotta have a battle using this monster and show to others how this monster can be useful in winning the battle for us and also showcase it's abilities with whatever level of card we have!!

As we are suppose to showcase the battle details, it's customary to show the details of lineup we had for the battle involving this monster and here was my lineup with Earth Splinter being my favorite as I am able to win many battles using that!!

We can see above the details of the battle I had with a link provided to the battle and details of mana cost and the rulesets provided for this battle.

It was a battle with 28 mana cost set with Heavy Hitters battle rule enabled which makes all the monsters to hit with double the original attack on a stunned monster.
OK, here is my lineup:

Flesh Golem:

image.png

This self healing monster is my first go man whenever I use Earth Splinter as it gives a bit of security at the top and ensures not it survives most of the time.

Minotaur Warrior:

image.png

My one down monster as this is the best bet I have besides Prismatic Energy. It will be a good companion for Flesh Golem in attacking the front monster.

Screeching Vulture:

image.png

Another most used Earth Splinter monster by me simply because it's an opportunist and also gives a backup melee attack option at the front.

Wood Nymph:

image.png

My usual number 4 or number 5 Earth Splinter monster for it's healing ability.

Child of the Forest:

Using this for the firs time for being the theme monster in this week's challenge.

Javelin Thrower:

image.png

Most used ranged monster in my lineups for it's speed and 3 ranged attack.

Battle:

I approached this battle with a little bit of hesitation as I had a new monster in my lineup than my usual ones and soon I just got relaxed after seeing the battle going in the direction I had thought.

Below is the round by round details of battle.

Round 1:

All the monsters were intact after this round, but, it was opponent's front monster Haunted Spirit which took most beating and was reduced to 3 and was removed with first hit in next round.

image.png

Round 2:

As mentioned, Haunted Spirit was first to go from other side removed by Javelin Thrower and my healer Wood Nymph was next to go because of snipe attack from Centaur

image.png

Round 3:

Animated Corpse from other end and Flesh Golem from my side were next to go as both were unable to attack in this round and poison took out *Flesh Golem.

image.png

Round 4:

2 ranged attack monsters Child of the Forest and Haunted Spider from opposite sides were removed along with Minotaur Warrior done in by poison.

image.png

Round 5 and 6:

Screeching Vulture was able to survive in round 5 with Javelin Thrower reducing the health of Phantom Soldier and in round 6 javelin Thrower again hit Phantom Soldier to remove it and Centaur being ranged attack monster, can't attack any more and I won the battle!!!

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Yes, barring those last minute anxiety, it worked quite well for me with even Child of the Forest also contributing a bit.

I would have used a sneak monster instead of Child of the Forest to attack from backend.

Do you use the CHILD OF THE FOREST often? Why or why not?

I don't use it much because it's at level 1 for me and doesn't add much value to my lineup at level 1.

Thank you, this was a short battle and I wasn't more confident of winning it, but won it finally because of Screeching Vulture and Javelin Thrower.

Nice victory, but I agree, it hampered you, you really need double snipe if you're going to use it! That and the Dwarven Wizard for that rule set would have been ace!

Thank you @revisesociology, I agree with you about using another sniper.

But, that means, I had to leave out Screeching Vulture, which was crucial in removing the speed reducing Creeping Ooze and also in me winning this battle as it evaded the attack couple of times to stand alive in last couple of rounds.

Thanks for the tipu curation :)

Oh I think you made a good selection for the battle, what I meant was that, had it not been for the challenge, you probably wouldn't have played the Child!

He's better used with Spirit of the Forest, by you probably want 30 mana for that!

Thanks for sharing! - @xawi

it is quite surprising to read that people don't use this car more often. And I use it a lot 😂
