Relocating to Switzerland - #01 - I finally found a job

Hello lovely Hiveans !

IMG_1639000923285.png

Today I have great news that I like to document in my blog. As some may know, I finished my studies in the field of astrochemistry in March 2021 and am a Doctor of Natural Science now. If you are interested, you find my PhD thesis here: My PhD Thesis 😁 .. Since the last 8 months I applied for jobs all over Germany in more than 100 job applications! Unfortunately, not a single one resulted in even a job interview! I also talked to many scientists in the same situation and they all experienced the same 😤

After my job agent from the local Jobcenter explained the hard reality for scientists in germany, I got super disappointed and frustrated 😫 .. More than 50% of the jobs are already reserved internally and are just fake offers. From the rest, 50% goes to woman instantly, no matter their qualification, as companies are eager to show-off how open minded they are and collect rates for public prestige. The rest goes to people abroad, who are willing to work for a low salary, which works well as the industry here does not care at all for wage agreements and love cheap workers .. In addition all jobs are temporary for only one year. This means, that you are jobless again after one year, have to repeat all the job hunting and also have to move again. This really sucks if you have a family 😡

I was told by my my job agent, that due to Germany's super shitty scientist treatment, 90% are going to german speaking countries, such as Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. Now guess what I tried? I expanded my reach to these countries and was finally lucky 😁

Should I Move and Work in Switzerland ?

I finally recieved a job offer from a big company in Switzerland. I do not have a signed contract yet, but after a little administrative paper work, I could have a really cool job that I would love to do 😀 .. In addition, as my job perspectives as a scientist in Germany are totally crapped, I decided to accept it without thinking twice for even a minute ^^ .. This job would grant several unneglectable advantages.

  1. First of all, the job is a really cool one! .. As I don't want to get into more detail in this post here, but maybe another one, I will skip any further details here. But for those who are interested, it's a job as a Project Leader in the Life Science sector. In addition, swiss people care about proper life-work balance and are a super friendly and nice folk in general 🥳

  2. Then, and I really love this point, the job is not temporary ! .. For me this means that I only have to move once with the whole family and can stay. There are no more frustrating thought in the back of the head that remind of having to complete move and finding a new job again in just a year .. This grants a tremendeous amount of stability and safety. It's hard to explain here, but I guess you know what I mean 😉

  3. Swiss laws aim to enable a man to feed the whole family alone. In their opinion a husbands salary should be always enough to cover all the living expanses for the whole family ! .. Bam, this is so awesome. As some may know, I am married and have a son already. As my wife is incapable of work and we both have no family left, I have to take alone on the task to work for my little family and swiss laws help me to actually do it. This is a super huge advantage over every other country in the world. It sounds weird, but even with a Doctor in Science, it is difficult here in Germany to feed a family with just one salary .. 😂!

  4. The country has so much more to offer. It starts from the landscapes, covers the culture and mentality, and ends with how proper the politics take care over their population. All of these point may be covered in future posts too, hehe .. But one thing that I want to mention here already is the education and digitalisation ^^ .. If you are updated on these things, you probably know that Germany is holding on extremely badly there. Their digitalisation is simply don't exists! In addition, the level of educations is below standards, and as I learned now, even after getting out of school and university, you are treated bad .. In Switzerland, my son will go directly to school, which starts there from the age of 4, and the system there is one of the best in the world. A great start that a father can wish for 😄

So .. What Happens Now ?

As I said, I have no fixed contract in my hands yet. But I accepted the job and are handling the paperwork now 😉 .. Thus, this is just my very first post about our adventure of relocating from Germany to Switzerland .. It may be of interest to some of you Hiveans out there, so I thought of an experience journal in a blog series. Thereby, I like to include the following points in more detail:

  1. Finding an Accomodation
  2. Arranging the Relocation
  3. Leaving Germany and Unsubscribing the German Residence
  4. Immigrating to Switzerland and Getting Settled
  5. Whatever I find Interesting ^^

Some Last Words

As you read, I am very close in getting a new job and are planning to relocate. Nothing is yet fully arranged and there are many many things to do and to consider along the way. But as I am planning to take on the journey, I will document the whole adventure here in Hive too, in a Moving journal ^^

I like to invite everybody to follow it and would be very glad for any comments, suggestions, discussions, questions and more in the comment section. Maybe you even moved too recently, or already have experience regarding an immigration to Switzerland especially ? Maybe you just find it interesting or plan something similar ? Nevertheless, you are all invited to leave your comments here 😁

That's great news!
I felt somehow really bad when I was reading that you were having some trouble getting a job... it's ridiculous that after such long years studying and preparing yourself you have to face situations like that.

Fingers crossed, it's just a matter of time till all that changes! :)
How are you feeling towards moving to Switzerland, aside from this job issue? I have a lot of friends that are also moving to other countries due to this same situation, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I might be considering this too for myself! lol

Oh yes, until the day I finished my PhD I always thought that finding a job would be no problem as a doctor in natural science .. but now the reality kicked in 😭 .. we are still living in a capitalistic world and not an ideal one .. cheap workers and a positive image are more valuable here than professional skills, unfortunately .. Germany is doing really bad in this regard, and probably not as the only country .. and somehow scientists are not viewed at as well as they should be too 😤 ......... But hopefully from next year everything changes ^^ .. I am actually very excited about the relocation and hope that it all works out as planned! As my son is still in the kindergarden and my wife unable to work, it's no problem for them to relocate together with me. Actually, thinking about Switzerland, the future for children is far brighter too .. so we are all eager, willing and engaged to do this step. But I have to admit that it is still a bit frightening 😉 .. but we are all willing to dare the adventure. From our perspective it can only get better. And Switzerland is beautiful and had so much to offer in addition 🥳

Wow! Lucky you! Your good karma has finally respond to your needs! This is the best option in Europe at present! Germany is definitely going down the drain!

Do the moving and relocation as soon as possible! After the Chinese New Year, things are going to be very chaotic around the world! Brace yourself for shocking events in early spring or sooner! Life will never be the same old way again!
Stock up on food and essential supplies, financial collapse is coming next year. Hyperinflation is knocking at the door too!

Stay safe and be prepared!

I also assume that Switzerland is a good place to be in to becoming year .. I also expect some we drastic changes around the world and hope to be prepared in time .. let's see how it all evolves in a few months 🤔

Hey there @qwerrie .. great news indeed 😀

We are all so happy that I found a job there. It is like everything gets together in a good way finally. At first I was a bit concerned about applying abroad, but the more I think about it, the better the idea gets .. By the way, I have a real job contract now and are also nrealy having an accomodation at hand if it works out, hehe. I could make a second part soon ^^

The point with the job situation in germany really hid me without a pre-warning. Until I finished my studies I always though it would workd out. As I will be a doctor there should be plenty options .. yeah, was a slap in the face then .. But now, thinking about Switzerland, I am not sorry about it anymore 😀

Right now we are all super excited and in a big moving mood and we assume that we get super happy there ^^ .. Thanks for stopping by 😉

do you plan moving out after the NY holidays?..
relax, yeah... now you can have a brilliant happy Christmas with firm land beneath and everything! PS. wish me well - recently I had an encouraging progress in the mutual relationship with my teenage kid, the thing that messed and oppressed my mind a lot during the recent year (years). things have a good turn too! so, these days I feel uplifted and in a good mood for no special reasons, day by day, cause... cause I am just happy! ;)))))))))))

Yes, we try to arrange everything now within the next weeks. I have to take a flight to poland too, for some signatures that I have to make. When I come backs we still celebrate a last christmas here and directly in the beginning of the new year, we take on the move .. at least thats the plan ^^

Hehe, congrats on your progress @qwerrie .. Dont know the details, but "teenage kids" always are a difficult thing to handle 😂 .. I am glad that you are super happy these days. You defenitely had some rough times to go through, so thats really good news. I hope you can keep this uplifted mood for a while, during the hollidays, and even start the next year with it too ;)

I wish you the very best !!
