Coffee and Philosophy Ep. 120 Announcement

In preparation for tomorrow night's show, I though I would put out some feelers and see if anyone wanted to request a topic for Cope and I to get into. We have been doing more current events topics lately, but of course we still love to explore all the philosophical and metaphysical aspects of life. If not then "fuck it we'll do it live." Hope to see you guys tomorrow night and if not, the recordings are always posted to 3speak.

The show will be Saturday night at 11:00 pm CST (Sunday 4:00 am UTC). If you want to hang out and interact with us live, take the Discord link below, or else the others all work for listening and watching live. I'll also post a recording some time after the show is over. Thanks to anyone that can come out and join us and we look forward to seeing you there. Much love to all of you.

I'd love to explore the idea that time does not actually exist, starting out with the fact that the atomic measurements of time speed up in comparison the further away (or higher up they are) from the earth's surface this Ted talk does a good summary, and ultimately exploring the fact that time itself is merely a human-imposed measurement system from one predictable event to the next. It doesn't necessarily mean a certain amount of time has passed. We just divide up things into increments so we can predict things and set a schedule. It doesn't mean anything has actually happened. I'm not saying everything happens at once, necessarily. However, what I am saying that the only evidence we have that time actually has passed at all is that a few of us tend to have the same meaning of "now". Sort of like we tend to agree on the same meaning of "red" or "green".

It's a topic we've gotten into quite a few times already, but I'll bring it up and see if it takes us anywhere new.

I was actually thinking about what @littlescribe suggested just last night while driving back from Tennessee. It's always astounded me that we as humans define natural laws such as gravity or time and just assume that is the only answer. What if there is another species out there in the universe that has figured things out and what we thought of as "science" turns out to be wrong. What if we were the equivalent of "flat earthers" to them? How would we react? How much would it change our societies? Our technology?

Sounds like a fun convo!

We should totes have it sometime. Although, I'm going to be partying tonight with neighbors, so I may not be able to hop on until late...
