Desaparecer las cosas y hacer magia para que luego aparezcan de la nada es un arte que muchas personas no tienen la capacidad de lograr. Todavía no sé si es algo innato o está en el entorno y se contagia como la gripe. Lo que sí sé es que esto es un don especial, pues es raro encontrar a una persona capaz de hacer aparecer todo lo que se ha perdido. Pues, les diré que estas cosas les pasa al pato Donald y también a Beckyta. Aunque no lo crean, la mayoría de las veces nunca encuentra lo que se le extravía.

Mi madre y mi abuelita también pertenecían a esa misma especie, a esas que se les olvida todo y pierden las cosas. A diferencia de que ellas siempre le echaban la culpa a alguien, sobre todo a los duendes, cuando no tenían a quién echarle la culpa de sus olvidos. A veces, o la mayoría de las veces o quizás siempre, se pierden las cosas dentro de la casa y después aparecen cuando no se necesitan. Cuando mamá le preguntaba a papá: “Mi amor, no has visto el colador del café”, él le respondía de manera jocosa:

“Por aquí paso el ladrón de Caracas que vino especialmente a buscar el colador del café y se lo llevo”.

Sé que no es cuestión de la edad porque esto sucede desde que tengo uso de razón. ¡Imagínense! Que las tarjetas de invitación y los globos para el primer año de mi hijo aparecieron cuando iba a cumplir dos años. Así como esto, muchas otras cosas. Cuando mi hijo estaba en preescolar, me tocaba ir a buscarlo y tenía que devolverme después de llegar a casa. Desde siempre soy así, y cuando esto me sucedía de joven, mi mami me decía: “Haz alguna actividad y verás que tu mente se calma y después vuelves a buscar”.

De verdad que sí funciona, pues toda perspectiva cambia. Esta técnica también la utilizo cuando estoy alterada, fastidiada y ansiosa. Generalmente, leo, coloreo, hago trabalenguas, disfruto de un café y, desde que descubrí mi pasión por las manualidades, hurgo por aquí y por allá, hasta encontrar un pedazo de tela. En esta oportunidad fui a visitar a mi amiga Sol y revisamos tutoriales en las redes sociales para hacer flores de tela y encontramos modelos bellísimos con yute.

El yute es muy versátil, ya que tiene usos variados tales como decoración, cortinas, manteles, camino de mesas, alfombras, manualidades, entre otras. Pero a la vez para manipular al momento de hacer cosas pequeñas y que requieren usar pega es algo complicado. Aun así, me gusta usar esta fibra vegetal. Making things disappear and using magic to make them reappear out of thin air is an art that many people aren’t capable of mastering. I still don’t know if it’s something innate or if it’s something you pick up from your surroundings, like the flu. What I do know is that this is a special gift, because it’s rare to find someone capable of making everything that’s been lost reappear. Well, I’ll tell you that these things happen to Donald Duck and also to Beckyta. Believe it or not, most of the time she never finds what she’s lost.
My mom and my grandma were also part of that same group—the ones who forget everything and lose things. The difference is that they always blamed someone else—especially the goblins—when they had no one else to blame for their forgetfulness. Sometimes—or most of the time, or maybe always—things get lost inside the house and then turn up when they’re no longer needed. When Mom would ask Dad, “Honey, have you seen the coffee strainer?” he’d reply jokingly:
“The thief from Caracas came by here specifically to look for the coffee strainer and took it with him.”
I know it’s not a matter of age because this has been happening for as long as I can remember. Can you believe it? The invitations and balloons for my son’s first birthday showed up when he was about to turn two. And just like that, many other things. When my son was in preschool, I’d have to go pick him up, and then I’d have to go back home after getting there. I’ve always been this way, and when this happened to me as a young woman, my mom would say, “Do something to keep yourself busy, and you’ll see that your mind will calm down, and then you can go back to pick him up.”
It really does work—it completely changes your perspective. I also use this technique when I’m upset, annoyed, or anxious. Usually, I read, color, practice tongue twisters, enjoy a cup of coffee, and—ever since I discovered my passion for crafts—I rummage around here and there until I find a piece of fabric. This time, I went to visit my friend Sol, and we looked up tutorials on social media for making fabric flowers and found some beautiful designs using jute.

For people who like to protect and care for the environment—myself included—jute is a great alternative. It’s expensive these days, but I still use it for special crafts. I’ll tell you that on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest, you can find cute jute projects—especially all kinds of flower designs. My goal is to share step-by-step tutorials for some of them with you. I know you’ll love them because they turn out so pretty.
When my friend Sol María and I get together, we drink coffee and do crafts; we lose track of time. I visited her before her trip, and we took the opportunity to make jute flowers. El proyecto que les traigo es muy sencillo: elaborar una flor de tela con yute y cabuya. Como siempre, a última hora pasa algo y se me olvida o extravío alguna cosa. En esta oportunidad fue el yute, el protagonista de este proyecto; lo dejé en casa. Lo que hice fue combinar y completar los pétalos con tela de bordar punto de cruz. Esta tela se conoce como Aida o etamina. Amigas de #Hivediy dejen volar su imaginación y háganlas con las telas que ustedes deseen. Lo único es que, para darle cuerpo, es recomendable sumergir la tela en almidón o maicena.

Fue muy complicado trabajar con yute y cabuya, porque tuve que apretar con fuerza para que se pegara. Tuve que quitarme los guantes porque se pegaban del yute y el silicón caliente me quemó las manos. Se requiere mucha paciencia y se me hizo largo y tedioso, pero aun así hice mi florecita. De todas maneras, recuerden que estos proyectos son para relajarse, sentirse bien y buscar la paz espiritual. Todo con calma y paciencia para realizar algo bonito.

Cabe destacar que se me olvidó tomar las fotos de los materiales, herramientas y del paso 1. En este paso, marque y corte el yute y la tela de bordar punto de cruz. Cuando me di cuenta, dije: “A mí y al Pato Donald” y tome las fotos que me hacían falta. Adicional, la foto del colgante donde coloque la que hice y la que me regaló mi amiga Sol María.

The project I'm sharing with you is very simple: making a fabric flower with jute and twine. As always, something happens at the last minute, and I forget or misplace something. This time, it was the jute that was the star of this project; I left it at home. What I did was combine and complete the petals with cross-stitch embroidery fabric. This fabric is known as Aida or etamine. Friends of #Hivediy, let your imagination run wild and make them with whatever fabrics you like. The only thing is that, to give it body, it's recommended to soak the fabric in starch or cornstarch.
It was very difficult working with jute and twine because I had to press hard for it to stick. I had to take off my gloves because they were sticking to the jute, and the hot glue burned my hands. It requires a lot of patience, and it was long and tedious, but even so, I made my little flower. Anyway, remember that these projects are for relaxing, feeling good, and finding inner peace. Everything with calm and patience to create something beautiful.
It's worth noting that I forgot to take pictures of the materials, tools, and step 1. In this step, I marked and cut the jute and the cross-stitch fabric. When I realized, I said, "Me and Donald Duck!" and took the missing photos. Additionally, I took a picture of the pendant where I put the one I made and the one my friend Sol María gave me.

Paso a paso / Step by step

Paso 1: Corte el yute tomando como medida un portavelas pequeño. Hice cuatro pétalos de yute y dos pétalos de tela de bordar punto de cruz de color blanco. Para este modelo de florecita se utilizan seis pétalos.

Step 1: Cut the jute, using a small candle holder as a guide for the size. I made four jute petals and two white cross-stitch fabric petals. Six petals are used for this flower design.

Paso 2: Pegue con silicón líquido por todo el borde de la cabuya. En el centro hice un pliegue para dar forma al pétalo. Si ustedes desean, pueden hacer un pequeño corte antes de pegar con el silicón.

Step 2: Apply liquid silicone along the entire edge of the twine. I made a fold in the center to shape the petal. If you wish, you can make a small cut before gluing it with the silicone.

Paso 3: Pegue los seis pétalos intercalando los de yute con los de tela para bordar. Enrolle cabuya e hice un centro para la florecita.

Step 3: Glue the six petals in place, alternating the jute ones with the embroidery fabric ones. Coil some twine to create a center for the little flower.
