Let Me Introduce To You My Bookbinding Materials That I've Been Invested For Years

Hello, how are you? So I've been organizing my art and craft materials, and I am telling you I have a hard time letting go of some of them, but I promise myself to just keep the ones that I usually use so that when I buy a new one, I have a lot of space to place them here in my room.

And recently I made about one sketchbook and a notebook. So what if I show you all my bookbinding materials that I have invested in throughout the years, and I pretty much complete them, to be honest. It might be that some of them are not completely clean yet, but pretty decent to look at LOL.

Bookbinding Materials and Their Use:

Never forget to buy a cutting mat. When I was planning on trying bookbinding, the first material I bought was this cutting board, as I remembered I bought on pandemic era. It is years old, and I am planning on upgrading to a bigger size. This is used for cutting paper, chipboard, fabric, etc. Without damaging your working desk.

Next is paper. I usually use watercolor paper, regular paper, and thicker paper for bookbinding. These are my favorites.

And next is a cutter. You cannot bookbind without a cutter, so it is mandatory to own one and make sure to buy a lot of extra blades because changing blades is a must in order to cut a thing perfectly. The first one I bought was the utility knife, but I've been loving this one.

For sewing the pages of the paper, and yes, bookbinding needs sewing, so you will need a thread. I like using cream color because I can use it in any paper I use.

And then you'll need beeswax for the thread to keep it not knot to each other in the progress of sewing, and if you bought a waxed thread, you will not needed a beewax, so I suggest you buy the waxed one and, of course, needles. I bought different sizes of it.

The funny thing is that they're too big for the thread I bought, so I use this tiny tiny needle from my parent's sewing kits LOL.

I own a waxed thread, but it is too thick for the paper I use, so I rarely use it. The last time I used it was when my mom asked me to bookbind the logbook I made for her, LOL.

Next are these bone folders. I bought this on set, but the longer one is the only thing I use LOL. Its use is to fold the paper cleanly and precisely.

The next materials are these clips. I use them to flatten the text blocks I sew along with the chipboard.

Next is this awl and compass. To be honest, I needed to upgrade the awl I use because I think it is too small and too dull when I use it to poke a hole in the paper LOL. And for the compass, this one marked the width precisely, so it's big and I rarely use it, to be honest hehehe.

Next is the glue. I like to buy in a bigger size because my family uses it too, so I won't run out of it. This one is the best in the market, so I bought it.

To apply the glue, you'll need a brush and a squeegee.

To add more protection to the spine of the textblock, I bought this mull, but I rarely use it now because of how expensive it is LOL.

Scrap paper from cutting is important too. I do not waste paper when I bookbind because I always find it useful. Why throw it?

Then scissors for cutting thread and paper.

Then I handmade the headband I use by using the leather or fabric of a book cover. What I do is I put a yarn a few millimeters up and then fold it just enough to cover the thickness of the yarn and glue it, and then I just cut the size I needed.

Then never forget a ruler, specifically the metal one. Before, I used to get confused about why people use it, and when I started bookbinding, it all makes sense now LOL, and of course a pencil and eraser for writing or marking.

Next is the garter and ribbon. The garter I like to match the color of the cover I am going to use. I ran out of it, so I only have a few inches of it, and then for the ribbon I like to use cream color for all the sketchbooks and notebooks I use. It is kind of a hassle if I match the color of the cover, so I decided, why not just buy the color and use that color only.

Next is never forget a chipboard. When I was selling a handmade sketchbook, I used to make my own handmade chipboard, so I like to recycle some of the cardboard or boxes, and it is a fun experience.

Next one is these plastic pieces I cut into a specific size. I use this when I glue the endpaper to the cover, and it is a real help to keep the paper from sticking to each other.

Next is sandpaper and a handle. I felt a lot of relief when I bought the handle, and it is easier to sand the paper now, which saves me a lot of time. I use this to smooth any paper on the side.

Next is the faux leather for the book cover, and I got this from my parent they have a lot of it, so most of the sketchbook I made is from this leather LOL. And you can use fabrics too.

Finally is a hot air gun. This one saves me a lot of time to dry the glue I applied, and it is a great investment, to be honest. I use it on my other crafts and art too, so worth the money.
