Today 28th of April It would have been Terry Pratchett's birthday (born in UK, 1948). Sadly the British Fantasy Author famed because of creating the "Discworld" (a flat world over a giant turtle) series passed away last 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer but his books remain as a legacy of his talent and wits. Have you read them? Though humorous and satirical there was a great deal of truth in many of the quotes of the many books in the series that span from "The Colour of Magic" (1983) to The Shepherd's Crown (2015) published barely months after his passing. He is also known because of co-writing "Good Omens" with Neil Gaiman

“At such times the universe gets a little closer to us. They are strange times, times of beginnings and endings. Dangerous and powerful. And we feel it even if we don't know what it is." -Terry Pratchett

The first novel of this saga I read.

There are many novels and subplots and to a great extent he wrote them in a way where the order is not that important. I remember the first one I ever read was "Mort" where Death decides to go on vacation with disastrous consequences.

Above me and my friend María on our witchy adventures.

Within the Discworld books probably the best and more known subplot were those novels devoted to the "Witches" that he above all never depicted as the dark figures we see in fairytales but as practical women that rarely do any magic Witches rarely do any magic, in fact, relying more on common sense, hard work, and a peculiar brand of psychology known as "headology", lol

The Coven of Lancre. The three main witches were introduced in 1988's Wyrd Sisters — crone Esme Weatherwax, mother Nanny Ogg and maiden Magrat Garlick are inspired by the reinterpretation of the Neopagans' Triple Goddess. Esme is the typical old witch we see in fairytales, Nanny the wise woman and Magrat the romantic one with a more modern vision.

“A witch ought never to be frightened in the darkest forest, because she should be sure in her soul that the most terrifying thing in the forest was her" -Terry Pratchett

“Witches aren’t like that. We live in harmony with the great cycles of Nature, and do no harm to anyone, and it’s wicked of them to say we don’t. We ought to fill their bones with hot lead.”Terry Pratchett's "Wyrd Sisters"

There are "fufunchis" 🐀🐀 in DiscWorld too. También hay "fufunchis" en Mundo Disco

The 28th book in the series was "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" inspired by the Piper of Hamelin, about a cat and his intelligent talking mice. Of course how can any of my posts have no rodents! Impossible ;-)

Imposible, hahah :)

Did you know about DiscWorld books? What are your favourite quotes, anecdotes? Let's celebrate Terry's Memory!

¿Conocías su trabajo? Compartid comenterios. Celebremos a Terry Pratchett!

Today all twitter is celebrating Terry's birthday and I thought we could celebrate his memory. Also he would have loved if someone would donate to any Alzheimer research program and let's toast with a Banana Daikiri, his favourite beverage. For you, Terry, and all the good laughs you have provided. We raise a glass on you.

I have not read them all either but a great bunch of them... My first one was Mort and I will never forget to imagine Death drinking liquors LOL, It's really sad he had such an early onset of Alzheimer considering his wits, and despite his many donations for research he could not avoid what I believe he may have feared the most... but his humour and creations will surely remain for all of us to enjoy for many generations. I'm pretty sure (if not yet) he will always mentioned as a fantasy author classic just like Tolkien or Ende.

Definitely, I think he was on his own level really with the humour that he had.
