Happy Monday my dear needleworkers and Hiveans! The photo above is my own creation. From an apron, I turned it into something more useful.

I cut it according to the design I planned to make a maternity/Multi-purpose bag for our coming baby. The heart-shaped pocket will be used for the outer pockets

I dismantled and old khaki skirt for the lining. I chose this because it's durable.

I embroidered the cloth with the lining in zigzag stitches forming a triangle. You can draw a line using a 12-inch ruler and trace the line on both sides. Am already used to it since I have been in bag making since the kids were small. I used to insert a thin foam for this. There's available foam by slabs in stores with these kind of accessories. But since we're in quarantine, this is the least that we can do. Of course, the quality is still there. The purpose of the foam is to make it bulky and for style.

Using a thin but durable lining, I created some pockets inside for segregation of baby stuffs. This will make your bag more organized too.

This is how the side pattern would look like. Attach the pockets first before attachment of zipper. As for the zipper, I used the #3 slider for more durability or you may opt to buy the regular one with 18-22 inches in length.

Attach the handles first before adjoining the zipper. Have you noticed something guys? The center part which connect the zipper and pockets actually makes the formation of how the bag would look like.

For the attachment of zipper, it should be in between the top cover and the lining so when you fold it back, all the strands are safely hidden, making a clean look inside. It is also important to wrap the edge with a bias tape or you may cut a cloth to make a bias strip for about 2cm in diagonal position.

The base will be the last part. After attachment, you may use another lining with the same size as of the base and leave both ends open.
IMG_20200413_170004.jpg
You may use a hardboard and insert it to make a sturdy base. With this, you can protect the stuffs inside your bag and you can remove it if your bag needs washing.

That is the finished product. Following these steps will make a pro and authentic bag.

Thanking @needlework and company for this little community of needleworkers. Thank you and God bless us all.

Till then,
@Sarimanok

Your bag turned out wonderful! THe heart shaped pockets are the cutest feature. You reused the apron so cleverly 😍

Yes indeed. This is showing how creative we can be using old stuffs at home. I didn't want to use it in the kitchen because I liked the crocheted lace attached to the pockets and I was thinking I could use it someday so here it is! Thank you for the visit.

This is such a lovely bag @sarimanok! I love how you reused the different garments to make this and the zigzag stitches all across the bag is a nice touch. It makes the bag sturdier too right? You have a very creative mind. Repurposing old garments is always an exciting project :)
