I Knitted A Beanie

0.jpg

This is my latest project - my third Beanie. I knitted 2 beanies and 2 scarfs before this. They are all practice pieces. Hence, the material and the workmanship is not great. However, they are perfectly usable (if one is not particular about the workmanship), and no one would be any wiser, if they didn't take a closer look at the finished product. Well, maybe the expert eye could tell immediately that the work was amateurish. Anyway....

I learned knitting from YouTube videos. It all started about three years ago when a friend said she picked up knitting. I said, jokingly, that it sounded like fun, and that I would like to try it too. My friend said she had some spare yarn and a pair of knitting needles which she had no use for. She would let me have them. I can try them and see how I get on. And if I enjoy knitting, I can invest in a better pair of needles and better quality yarn.

And that was it. I started searching YouTube for videos on knitting, and I learned to knit from scratch, from watching the YouTube videos. It wasn't too difficult and I must say I enjoyed it. I am quite proud of myself. A minor accomplishment.

I don't think I will be doing a lot of knitting, as there is no motivation to do so. It is also cheaper to buy, be it a beanie or a scarf. Plus, knitting is very time consuming, and these days, time flies. There are hardly enough hours in a day.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my needle work in process.

I used circular needles for this project. I find circular needles are more convenient.

I did a knit two, purl two for the border,

... and knit one purl one for the rest of the hat.

Finally, finished knitting. And its 'tying' up loose ends.

I found myself a model.

I am sure if I can do it, you can do it too. Yes, the needles are called circular needles. Instead of a pair of needles, the two needles are joined with a 'wire'.

Hello @quotes-haven, nice to have you here in the needleworkmonday community and to hear about your story how you picked up knitting. I love that you learned it (of free will 😂) later in life and not - as it seems everybody else - as a child.
I also started late :-DDD My mother tried to teach me but I was stubbornly ignoring her lessons (sadly) and I re-learned years later with the help of YouTube. Your beanie looks like a perfect beanie to me, no need to question you abilities. I hope to hear more about your knitting journey. Therefore here the official invite :-D

Every week needleworkers from around the globe get together to share our work, patterns, tips, ideas and shortcuts as we support one another. Our goal is to inspire the Hive blockchain to give crafting a try.

On Monday’s we use the #needleworkmonday tag and on all other days we use the #needlework tag without the word Monday attached. We share and post our work directly from the Community page.

We encourage our members to share the process of their work through photos. This not only validates your work but it takes us along the creative journey with you 🙂

Hi there @neumannsalva. Thank you for your kind comments and for your invite.

I am quite unlikely to be a regular at your community because I knit for the fun of it. But I will look in every now and then and see what everyone's up to. Maybe someday I will be inspired by someone's creativity and do more knitting. And if I got motivated to knit something, I will surely share them on here.

Meanwhile, best wishes to you and your community. 😊

Welcome to NeedleWorkMonday! :) You knit well for a beginner and I hope you will continue knitting other things, if not a beanie. I couldn't even finish a beanie with my knitting. The most I did was a scarf which was straight all the way :D

How about trying crochet? :D I learn my knitting and crochet from Youtube too but ya, I get you about motivation. It helps when you make things that you like and would use.

Thank you for your kind comment.

Now that you knitted a scarf, you should knit a beanie to complement it. 😊

I, actually, have the needles and yarns for crocheting. I was thinking maybe I should also try crocheting - just for the fun of it. We shall see.

You are most welcome!

Haha.. that is a good one. I have been wanting to knit one, watching many videos but my hands are afraid to start. Hopefully soon. Your post is an inspiration for sure :D

Yes yes, try it for fun. I personally feel crochet is simpler to control when it comes to mistakes and shapes. But knitting, the texture is more gentle or graceful compared to crochet I feel. Knit, knit here I come! :P

Welcome to Needleworkmonday!

I am actually thinking about trying out knitting since I have two pairs of knitting needles just collecting dust, buried deep in my yarn stash.

Yes, give knitting a try, since you already have the yarn and needles. 😊

I don’t know how to knit, so for me it looks like a professional job.

Thank you for your kind words. Knitting is interesting, and not too difficult. But it is time consuming. You need to have a lot of spare time. 😊

Thank you for taking a look.

In knitting, they are called circular needles.
I am not a very patient person by nature either. But I take it as a challenge. 😊
