My first pleated knit and a weird garden found

I woke up this morning and thought we have Sunday, but no it’s Monday and holiday… :-DD Do you know this Sunday feeling: less cars, shops closed, people sleeping longer. It seduced me to plan the whole day in the garden. We (aka my husband) are still repairing the shed and its leaking roof, so that we can install a water storage system. I am fighting brambles and digging holes for plants and trees (I will tell you later what crazy found I made). Because of this I completely forgot to prepare anything for the #needleworkmonday
Oh nooooooo....

So, here is my confused update on wip’s
I am still on my striped cardigan. Both sleeves are finished, and I already sewed one in. You perhaps remember I needed your help with pattern deciphering for the sleeves and although you helped so much, I nevertheless made a mistake. I made the sleeve cap too big. I noticed this right away and decided to knit the second one identically and try to form the excess fabric into pleads as I have seen in a vintage knitting book (thanks @muscara for the book tip).

Here is a short review on this book... I still have not made something with it but I really want to, perhaps someone else has experiences with the recipes in this book (there are no real pattern inside)

For the first sleeves my pleat worked perfectly, and I hope the second one will also be ok. But currently this project must wait because of the above-mentioned garden work and because I am crocheting and sewing birthday presents for my husband. Which I cannot show you right now… (he is reading this so: shhhhhh….🤫🤫)

That’s it with the needlework for today, but I want to surprise you with a garden found. One part of the garden has a kind of cave/ depression and the neighbours told us that more than 15 years ago someone tried to build a historical cold-storage room in this garden, which was never finished. Strange I know…

We found this depression full of brambles which we cleared but we did not anything more with this weird part of the garden. Four weeks later the brambles are trying to come back and an army of stinging nettles has claimed this depression.

For some days I was thinking about planting some bigger fruits into this part, like summer squash and Hokkaido squash, as I read that nettles are plants which point to a very fertile soil. Yesterday I started to clean this area. Sadly, all my dreams of planting something eatable are gone by now. Beneath the nettles I first found some strange metal net. Curiosity aroused I dug and dug and… found the top of a big canister. I unburied this thing and it turned out to be a petrol or oil canister.
Hurrayyy I always dreamed of this (irony… dear needleworkers, irony). The canister was rusted partly, and a gooey black substance was leaking into the soil.

And with this I changed plans – bye squash, hello flowers. I filled in some new soil and planted dahlia, zinnia and some other flowers. The stones for the patch limitation I found inside the walls of this depression. Perhaps these are the rest of the cooling room walls.

I had that Vintage Design Workshop book. Lots of pretty sweaters, but I think I traded it in for some other vintage books--or it might be in the yarn closet somewhere waiting to fall on my head when I open the door! Pretty pleated sleeves.

Oh the closet 😁 I guess I have a very similar closet were my yarn stash is living and always ready to jump out. And thank you for the compliment, but sadly the second pleat is still waiting to be done...

Why aren’t you knitting such a jacket? Is it the knitting (because you could make it in crochet, you are so good in crochet) or is it the time? 😊
Sorry for the English, but I am unsure if google would translate everything right...

I love the colours of your cardigan! 😍 And the pleats look really neat. You know, you look so pretty in vintage. You can carry the look so well. Take your time with the WIPs. I have loads still untouched hahaah. I am like you too. Most Mondays, I will be scrambling for projects.
And your garden, what a discovery. Are you sure there is no treasure hidden inside the canister? Have you guys scanned for gold or metal or sorts? I watched on Youtube how people discover quite expensive treasures with metal detectors :) Yah, flowers would be a better choice with that black substance in the soil. Can't wait when they bloom!! :)

Ohhh blushing and thank you so much for the compliment!!! But I still did not wear the cardigan, the second sleeve and all the other details like buttonband , yarn ends etc are missing. I was only working om my husbands presents.
And with the garden, sadly in the area where I live treasures in the ground are very unlikely. The only treasures you can find here are (sometimes active) bombs from WWII... and then all must be evacuated and they are securely removed or exploded. Ok... somtimes you also can find coal in the ground. 😁🤣
