Success with the Water Soluble Stabilizer
Yesterday, a couple of products that I ordered from Amazon arrived to help me get a better result with embroidering on towels.
I watched several videos to determine how people get successful results with towel embroidery. Several of the videos recommended a water-soluble topper. It is a very thin layer of plastic looking material that goes on top of the towel. The purpose is to keep the thread from sinking into the nap of the towel.
I tried it out first on an inexpensive kitchen towel that I bought from the dollar store. I did not want to mess up the nicer towels that I bought as a gift.
I learned a couple of things from this experience. I noticed that the embroidery stitch is not as certainly on the towel. I may try repeating the pattern over the same space to give it a heavier look.
I would have to try it on a different towel since this look is satisfactory and I don’t want to mess it up.
I am really enjoying learning all about the capabilities of my old Singer Quantum XL 100. Who knew that I had this capability? If it had not been for the mandatory quarantine, I would never have explored this machine that I have had for over 30 years.
My next test will be to try to embroider on one of my thicker but older towels that I do not intend to give away as a gift. If the result comes out great, then I will embroider on the new gift towels.
Enjoy your day.
The water-soluble stabilizer is great for many applications. I have used it in heirloom sewing with batiste and lace. Keeps lightweight fabrics from being sucked down the needle hole.
I can't wait to experiment.
That's interesting - never heard about that.
