A Box Pleat Dress

I was surprised to receive a picture from one of my clients not quite long as I was still working on another project to be shared soon.

I paused for a moment to share this by the way, a job I've done for over three or four months ago.

It was one of my favourite clients who wanted me to make a box pleat for her with a very beautiful nude fabric.

This fabric is sleek in texture and transparent as it needs a lining to make it look better.

The focus was on the upper bodice, a process dart, funny thing that happened that day was, that a friend of mine wanted to learn how to cut a princess dart, so I used a stone to kill a bird.

I marked out my client's measurements which were her apex (nipple point), bust span, bust circumference, waist, underbust, and half-length.

From the shoulder, I marked out the apex, under the bust and half-length, then I added seam allowance and joined them together, I used the bust span to get the perfect allowance between the body and bust.

I cut out what I've marked with my chalk as seen and placed the cut on a breast wadding.

I cut what I marked out on the lining since the fabric was so delicate and fragile.

I decided to pad the princess bustier so that it would look fuller and finer.

After cutting it out here was what it looked like.

I went ahead to joined them using my sewing machine, this part needs total concentration as little distraction can spoil the whole job.

While joining this, I had my friend ask me a lot of questions and I patiently answered them.

I remember how cutting a princess bustier was a struggle for me while I was still an amateur, it looked kind of complicated at first but with constant practice it became so easy for me.

After joining it, I went ahead to join the box pleat to the upper bodice to give it a beautiful dress, I used the lace applique I had to beautiful the dress and also enhanced it with beautiful red stones.

My client is not a young lady, she is quite chubby so I fitted the dress to her choice, she doesn't want it tight at all.

I begged her to send me pictures as soon as she rocked the dress but it took her three months to send the picture to me, and she sent just one and demanded I cut off her face 🤣.

Well, it's still better than not having anything to show for this project.

As a fashion designer have you come across this kind of client who wouldn't send you pictures of the project you've ever done or is it just me?

Too bad because of my busy schedule I didn't have time to fit this particular dress on my mannequin before delivering it, I should have gotten nice pictures of different views of this dress.

I have learned a lesson hehe.
