Stormy weather on the horizon

Weather in the UK is always unpredictable. Despite our local and national weather report doing a good job with letting us know what to expect, saldy that can't always be exact.

Many years ago when I moved to UK, I was more then surprised with seeing all four seasons happening in one day (rain, sun, snow and more). As all this was happening in front of my eyes, my good friend couldn't resist and not to laugh how the expression om my face has changed with each of them being another awe in disbelief. Trust me when I say that it has been the case ever since, and just like the locals, in time I got used to it and has become a new normal in my daily life.

North West of England gets a lot more rain then South of England, and with that more cloudy skies and storms. Substantial amount of bad weather comes over to Ireland from the Atlantic Ocean which takes the first initial hit. Whatever the strength there's left in the nature of a stormy weather, it then progresses over the Irish sea and touches down on the shores before continuing into the mainland UK.

We've been getting more sunnier months from March until May then throughout the actual summer calendar months July until September. Rain is common and clouds can be persistent, with many days going past before we get some sun.

Weather approaching the UK from all the four directions (North, South, East and West) is different in every aspect.

  • North brings less rain but the winds are colder and there's a higher chance of a snow in Winter.
  • Weather coming from the South (from African continent moving up over Spain towards UK) is the warmest, with most chance of having longer spells of sunnier days ahead.
  • Weather from East can be a bit more tricky and thus unpredictable as we can get whatever the continental Europe has in store for us and it usualy doesn't calm down before coming over the English Channel (sun, rain or snow)
  • That leaves us with the weather coming from the West, which is very much what I've sort of managed to explain in this short article.

There's an umbrella for every memeber of my family in the my car, just in case we ever get caught by rain. Today, as I type all this and telling the story about how rubbish the weather here can be, the sun has come out and we might even get a lovely weather weekend.

Last photo was taken when I used to walk to work and was an isolated rainy cloud over the town of Romiley, UK.
All other photos were taken from my property, and LG G7 was the smartphone I've used to capture our ever changing skies.

Thanks for stopping by and take care.
