The Crow Experience

Was having a lunch at the mall at an outdoor table when a crow was going through the garbage can trying to see if there was a fry left in a New York Fries bag. It was really close. I took a photo and a video of it. I didn't think too much of it at the time, later I had further Crow Experiences that day.

Here is the video clip

Later that day I was listening to the radio and I heard a story about about a photographer who noticed a crow acting strangely among some other crows. It was flapping around kinda violently. Sometimes crows have a dirt bath kicking up dust covering their feathers with it. When the photographer zoomed in on the photo at home he noticed bumps on the feathers and saw they were ants. There is a behaviour crows do called anting. There are a few theories on why they do this. One is that the ants excrete a kind of acid that acts as sterilization against bacteria. The other theory is that they get the ants to climb on them so they excrete the acid because it tastes bitter to eat so after it is more palatable for the bird. The other theory is that they do this for a bit of excitement!

Later I was watching the Sailor Moon Eternal movie on Netflix. Saw the scene when Sailor Mars - Rei has 2 pet crows she had as a child that help her out.

In the evening I looked up this old pal who broke a cd of mine back in the day. The Crow soundtrack! So I listened to the song from the soundtrack called The Badge by Pantera. Made me think of BLM and ACAB plus this Ted Talk by a cop from Calgary who started an anti-bullying campaign after he experienced abuse from when he was a child.

Next morning the newspaper had the words The Crow as part of the headline. I was like wow that is a lot of crow action in such a short time!! I though that was cool, especially learning about the anting behaviour. I like crows and I like ants too.

Also been hearing allot about Indian Residential Schools lately because of the unmarked mass grave of children they found at one in Canada. I flashed back to a story about a girl who ran away from residential school. She remembered from her parents the story of the crows and how if you follow them you can find a source of food if you are hungry.
