Butterfly and Lilacs

(Edited)

I chased this lovely Swallowtail butterfly around the yard and finally it decided to pose for me on the lilac bush.

The Swallowtail is enjoying flying around and nectaring at various blossoms.

Nature is truly amazing and it is a joy to see the butterflies returning from the South.

The Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies migrate over long distances, some as far South as Mexico. The large yellow Swallowtail does not migrate.

The lilac bush is in bloom and the purple blossoms are a great source of nectar for, not only the butterflies, but the bees and hummingbirds.

It’s a pleasant sweet smell in the air as I pass by the lilacs.

I hope to see many more butterflies this summer.

Nice lots of butterfly posts! Second one in my exploration here.

We just hatched our own painted lady butterflies recently, it was a really fun experience with a toddler. Just released them this past weekend to go live out their few weeks before they reproduce!

Like the quality of your pictures, they came out really well! The t6 is a great camera.

I’m glad you liked the post. You have some great photos yourself of the Painted Lady. They would make a nice post for Amazing Nature.

Lovely lilac,I wish we could grow this plant here! Lovely fragrance! No wonder, the butterflies just love these sweet flowers!

Most old homesteads had a lilac bush here. I remember my parents had two big beautiful bushesin the front of the farmhouse.

Lilacs are no maintenance. I planted this one a few years ago and now it is coming along nicely.

Thank you for the information. I am very tempted to search for this lilac in plant nurseries here. Would love to have a few!

Well, I'm glad you have the lilacs ready for the Monarch and Painted Ladies return. Their numbers are diminishing as habitat on this end of the journey is disappearing fast. I really hope that can be rectified.

Thanks for the lovely photos. Very much appreciated!

Welcome and thanks for your kind comments. 😊

It’s sad @bigtom13 how the butterflies are decreasing. There’s lots of flowers, good clean air and no pesticides used in the yard to help the butterflies if they make it back here.

What a beautiful post, Jo 😃

This butterfly is just beautiful and together with the lilac, which I don't like to smell but love to see, it makes a great composition for "Amazing Nature".
I think I have seen such a big and beautiful butterfly only once before when we were on holidays in Croatia.

Thanks so much Johann. 😊 I’m happy you liked the big beautiful butterfly and the lilacs... even if not the smell.😀

Hopefully I will see many more butterflies as the temperature stays warm. There’s been three or four of the Swallowtails fluttering around the yard. Seeing them always lifts the spirit.

I hope you had a good day. It’s been pleasant here.

Thanks Johann for the rehive, !tip and beer.😉 Much appreciate your kindness.

Good morning Jo,

that's right, and working in the office when it rains outside is much better than when the sun is shining 😉

So interesting learning how some of these insects may only live up to a week while others as long as eleven months.

Migration over many miles on tiny little wings, superb photography and gorgeous flowers in bloom up there Jo.

It’s a beautiful time of the year here now Joan. Sort of makes up for the winter.😊

I’m always amazed the butterflies and hummingbirds survive the long migration returning each spring.

Thanks Joan and for the tip.

It would be interesting to know if any butterfly eggs or chrysalis lay dormant through winter only emerging in summer. Humming birds migrating also amazing considering they do not have the long wings which normal indicate a bird that migrates.

Life of our winged friends always startling to see suddenly arrive, enjoy this beautiful time outdoors.

I think that does happen in the case of some butterflies but the Monarch travels to Mexico from here to winter. That’s over 2 thousand miles (3218 KM).

It’s amazing the hummingbirds do the same. They are so tiny and migrate to sunnier climates in Mexico, the Caribbean or South America. They return to the same places each year.
