Two Amazing Discoveries Today!

369.JPG
A beautiful sculpture of a Wildebeest with a beautiful lady next to it!

But this sculpture is hiding a great secret!

Surprises, some pleasant and others not so pleasant are always at play in life and in this post I will start with the pleasant discovery first.
Come and have a look!

We have many times crossed over this little bridge with our car, but I have never investigated the little service tunnel under the bridge, until today.
395.JPG

This is the view at the northern end of the tunnel and for security reasons I kept the shot at a distance.
387.JPG

The First Discovery!

A familiar name was scrolled on the wall of this tunnel and I wondered if some Australian bush-whacker had visited these parts.
394.JPG

Maybe my good friend @galenkp can shed more light on this?
388.JPG

The Second Discovery (Unpleasant)!

That Blue-Wildebeest makes for a beautiful sight at the southern end of the tunnel. But beware!
393.JPG

Look, a Wildebeest with a left earring.
385.JPG

Oh, oh, that earring looked a bit dangerous to me.
384.JPG

Yes! I was right, as that is a wasp nest with new born wasps crawling around!
383.JPG

Now the problem was that Marian was standing at the right hand side of the statue. Barely 5cm away at the left side from her a wasp nest was hidden.
369.JPG

Such are the discoveries in life ain't it?
Mulling this over in my mind, I reached an unpleasant conclusion about the message here.
Beware of beautiful things, as they have a hidden bite, or hold many hidden bites hahaha.

Although I say this in jest, I have personally been bitten by some beautiful persons, but that is not applicable here.
My worry is that someone else will go to stand there for a photo and they will get much more than a lovely photo.
Such is life!

And That's All Friends!

I hope that you will think about this quote!

“Health is the new wealth. Happiness is the new rich. Inner peace is the new success. Kindness is the new cool.” —Syed Balkhi

Note: All photos are my own and taken with a Canon Powershot SX60HS camera.

We hope that you have enjoyed the photos and thank you for visiting a post by @papilloncharity

The sign at the tunnel says "remain on the pathways", so I think I know who is to blame if the wasps defend their home ;)
I'm glad that you have seen the nest and that Marian didn't disturb the wasps - they are beautiful, aren't they, and the nests they build are amazing :)

Oh yeah, a great take on it Hannes, but people will always be people and that's why there are Wasps around, to remind them to stay on the pathways 🤣
Free labor just like our squirrel planters here!

The thing is that we didn't see the Wasps when Marian stood there. Only afterwards when I took other shots of the Wildebeest, did I see the nest. I am glad that Marian didn't decide to climb on his back 🤣

Yes, the nests are amazing and I have a full series of photos somewhere about how they build the nests from the start. Amazing stuff, as it starts with a tiny anchor that consists of wasp saliva and mud.

Cheers and thanks!

She has had much luck, but I also think that the wasps might be used of people getting close to their nest.

Nah, not many people go there as it is in the middle of a very big parklike place with no entertainment fascilities.
I said that I would show how a nest is started with a tiny thin stick. Here is the start of a nest under the gutter plank of our roof.
562.jpg
Now they just continue to increase the cavities hundred fold and it all hangs on that little stick glued with a special Wasp saliva to the plank.
Nature's residents have ingeneous abilities!

Cheers and thanks!

Cool, the nests our wasps build under the roof look similar. Some also build their nests inside of walls or other cavities, but inside they all look about the same.

We now have one of those big black Potter wasps collecting water here Hannes.
My hope was always to get one in flight so wish me well my friend.

I think the wasps do the same thing all over the world, although their building materials will change. I read somewhere that the wasps at nesting time develops a special saliva that can turn into a glue and that's what they use for the achor of the nest. They also place small parts of insects into the cavities with the eggs so that the babies can eat when they are born.

Now here's a strange thing.
A certain type of wasp catches bees and paralysis a bee with it's poison. Then it takes the bee to its nest for its babies to feed on.
Here's that wasp that I got on camera yesterday.
325.jpg

At the same time you can see two little midgets in the photo, one on the wasp's back and one on the bee's head looking for food.
This is #amazingnature bound in a post sometime.

Cheers and thanks!

Now, that's a strange looking wasp, but I guess there are many more kinds around the world.
The image looks cool with the additional dinner guests 😀

I have read about the food for the little wasps too.

Yes and it is at times that nature can be so surprising Hannes.

This particul wasp feeds its larvae with pieces of the bee. I think that I will do a post about it today. Maybe, depending on what happens today 😁

Cheers and thanks!

Good day Zac,

🐝😉

The sun is shining today, but I got a lot of work to do and should sort and edit my photos too.
Besides that I am working on my website for the first time in a while - apart from copying my Hive posts from time to time I haven't done anything.

Whatever happens today, I hope it will be a nice day for you 🙂

Good morning Hannes,

So strange, as I spoke to a guy yesterday about Papillon's website. We have a donated website, so we cannot update it and have to send all new information to the company that hosts the website. Of course they are busy and our website has fallen seriously behind.

So now we want to build a new website that we can control.
But of course it has many tricks such as the "Donate" button and the banking links, plus firewalls and all kinds of things that I don't even know about.

We are also thinking about a name change, by returning to our original name "Project Papillon SA" and changing the e-mail addresses to @papillonsa as our current ones are too long being @thepapillonfoundation.
So, we will see how it goes.

The sun was shing there yesterday and I hope that it is again today 😉

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

it's annoying if you have to wait till someone has time to make changes on my website.
When I had my webdesign business years ago, the waiting time for my customers was a few hours, but if I was off work it was a few minutes only, depending on the needed work.
Even if your website is donated, they should treat you like a paying customer, maybe even better.

A content management system (CMS) with which you can maintain your website yourself is the best way, of course.

I can edit my website whenever I want ... if I have Internet 😉

Wish you a sunshiny day my friend 😁🌞

Hi Hannes,

What I know about websites is dangerous lol. One thing that I have never looked into.
You must have noticed that I don't like self promotion about our work, else my blog would have been filled with charity posts about pain and suffering.

So now I will get clever and tell the guy that is in the process of working out a quote for us that we want a CMS, as then he will think that I know something about websites 🤣

I am currently working on a charity post, just to show our plans for this year and what we expect to do with the funds that we are building on Hive.

We feel sorry for the person that ended up with the task of updating our website, as the original guy has left the company and the new person has a lot of work to keep the company going. But it is not an ideal situation.

So, we will see how it goes!

Cheers and thanks!

Btw. What is the the link for your website?

Hi Zac,

I don't know how often you will be working on the website, but a CMS is always a great solution. If you see a spelling error or want to change a photo you can do it yourself within a few minutes - maybe even with your phone ... well, not with your phone, I believe 😉

OK, now I understand, because I feel also sorry for the people who have to update the websites I have developed and maintained back then.

My website was under construction for quite a while, but in the past days I have changed the design to a very, very simple website. Some parts will still be under construction for another while: https://piber.cc

Have a great day Zac 🔆

Do you also get that dreaded feeling when you scroll down and see messages that you have somehow missed Hannes?

So now I sit with abour 8 unanswered messages here and I was wondering why you and I have only about 3 messages lately.

Okay, I apologise and a CMS is indeed an imperative for a website, so I will make sure that the guy includes this.
If I also include it on our phone then it will destroy our fragile data count.

Just had a look at your webiste and it's going to be great when it is finished.
Simple is always the best way in life my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

It has happened before, and I didn't feel good, because I always reply.

Thank you Zac, I don't think I will have time this week to work on the website, but apart from texts I don't want to add much more ... a minimalist black&white website.

Cheers and !BEER

Haha, you found me out!

The G-dog gets around, scratching his name into walls around the world! That was a good find and I'd totally forgotten I'd tagged that wall!

Ah yes, good times, good times. 🤣

Yeah, I think that somebody in South Africa really likes you.
Might even love you, but I won't go further into this 😎
Sorry that I missed your Friday chat, I suppose you heard about our internet signals here and one day I couldn't post at all on Wednesday.
Got things sorted on Saturday morning to get an emergency link, but even now the thing is slower than a tortoise.

It still surprises me that people in fairly modern countries (including Australia) struggle through no, or slow, internet. I saw that you weren't around on the WE30 but that's ok mate, just do what you can, when you can. :)

Thanks for understanding and they say that the cause is the loadshedding.
Every time that they switch the power off in certain areas, the result is that they also switch the signal towers off.

Here's our current signal strength; Upload 3.49 Mbps and Download 0.07 Mbps

So, you can see that I can only do the basics which is loading a post (that takes a long time) and then do the replies.
I start a post now at 2pm and have it ready by 5pm, sometimes even longer.
Such is life my friend!

Oh wow, that's pretty bad! I had thought ours was bad, in comparison to EU I think it is but here's my numbers just now...

I feel for you mate.

Wow! You are way out of our league and I think even our more expensive suppliers cannot match this.
We are of course on the cheapest system that shares the towers of the big buys, but we only get a small piece of the bandwith and that's why it's the cheapest.
Vodacom is our strongest supplier with prices to match and maybe one day Papillon will be able to get a contract with them.

It's amazing how much we rely on the internet these days and how much a part of life it is...Our speeds are pretty good I guess, but I know parts of EU have far greater speeds. It's shameful in this day and age that your speeds are so slow, even for a cheaper service.

We use Australia's premier telco, Telstra, and all the infrastructure is theirs; The others lease from them although I think there's a few Optus towers here and there. To be honest I'd be happy for the world to roll back to a time before the internet and smart phones, it's all a bit out of control if you ask me.

It took a long time to convince me that internet was the way to go my friend.
Prior to starting Papillon, I have always had clerks that took care of the internet and PC side of things.

We started Papillon with monthly newsletters posted to supporters, but in the third year, the need for a website and e-mail communication became paramount and that was the decider.

So a small company donated a website to us which is terribly outdated right now and the internet started to become a new way of life. Bear in mind that I also got my first own PC.
Since then it has grown into a daily lifestyle.

What the internet does for me, is it shows how un-united this world is. Opinions can be freely aired and they are as far apart as the east is from the west. Mostly biased!
Take the Covid vaccination for example. Some are saying to beware, as the vaccines are engineered to alter the genetic material in human bodies. Similar to engineered foods.
Others are saying that this guy doesn't know what he is talking about and so it goes.
Then there's the Bitcoin arguments as the rich try to protect their turf and blow it down as a bubble or a pyramid scheme. Others see trhough this and for me it makes all of the struggles meaningless.

Misinformation is rampant on the internet it can be a dangerous place to be. So I stick only to the basics and keep on doing what I know.

As you say, it's out of control and a runaway train lol.

It's almost impossible to do business without the internet these days and that spreads all the way down to the individual as, here in Australia, one can't do anything without some government App of so sort, MyGov, MySAGov and so on. Go on the app they say...Yeah, that works if one can! (And often it doesn't work anyway. It's frustrating. Then there's the private sector like banks, medical, schools, road-side assistance etc. (Just about everything we do and deal with is online.)

I consider myself fairly savvy, not tech-smart or anything but I know my way around but I can only imagine what it's like for the older generation or those less savvy with all of this stuff...And then there's the things you mention: Misinformation, propaganda, control-mechanisms, influencing and so on...The internet can be a breeding-ground for everything bad the human race has to offer.

Of course it can be used for good, and often is. I suppose it's like everything where human's are concerned. Good ones will do good, bad will do bad and sometimes those lines are crossed through necessity or circumstance.

For me...Well, I'd be happy to roll back and have no internet but that won't happen.

Nope, you are right as those days are gone.
I have now lived through a few generations and to experience the changes through to 60s, where Woodstock was a major change event, then the 70s,80s.90s and now, it is absolutely mindblowing how life has changed. Best time of my life was the Woodstock era, where music was real and the new "freedom" took place. Looking back, one was never free and always chained to systems.

Good and bad co-exist as we all have both inside ourselves and the real matter is which one we allow to rule our lives. Knowledge is great as it helps us to cope with life's requirements, but wisdom is the elusive madam.
So yes us oldies have a terrible time acclamitising ourselves to the tecnological requirements hahaha, but limited as we are, we make our way as we have always done in life.

I do however see internet as as a means to do good, especially for Papillon, as everything that we do in life shows our heart.

That park is a lovely find and it is indeed a beautiful sculpture of the wildebeest!
I hope you got your shots quickly and got Marion away from there!
It's interesting to see the newly hatched wasps but I won't want to be that close to them - I have been stung a few times from wasps and they sure hurt!

Thank you, as I said elsewhere, we didn't even know that the Wasps were there until afterwards when I took other shots of the sculpture.
I have also collected a few wasp stings over time and it sure does hurt, but they are beautiful little things and the way that they build their nests is very interesing.

If you look closely at the nest, the white spots that look like cotton buds have baby wasps inside and their parents put little insects inside it before they seal it off, for the babies to feed on.

Blessings!

Little red wasps are pretty to look at not to tangle with yikes!

Buffalo is very life size making it look part of the surroundings Stephen. Children through the tunnel made an effect photograph, how fortunate you are allowed in public spaces we have not been allowed to parks or beaches once again.

Hahaha, yes, at the fishing waters we had much "fun" with the wasps Lady Joan and their "greetings" are well remembered!

All of the beaches are closed here, but the parks are open, as the thought is that open spaces are the places to be.
I saw a hilarious picture of a guard ordering a person to get off the beach and telling him to rather go to Makro 😮
Makes one think that somebody's got the cat by the tail!

Blessings!

Go about life as 'normal' as possible, leave the bickering to those who enjoy it 😃
