Squirrels and Avocado pears.

Some of our squirrels prefer avocado to nuts and visa versa.
030.jpg

Humdinger, as avocado is definitely this squirrel's favorite.

We decided upon an experiment to see who would fancy what, so we put out some peanuts and next to it slices of avocado.
Here I will show that squirrels are just as selective about what they eat as humans.
One would think that when food is offered to animals that they all would eat the same thing, but not so.

Our first customer arrived tentatively, checking out the table top.
001.jpg

He jumped onto the log to have a closer look and the question was, would he go for the nuts or the avo?
002.jpg

Which way is he leaning? Will the avo or the nut win this round?
003.jpg

Here you can see that the squirrel favored the avo and ignored the nuts.
011.jpg

Then a second squirrel arrived and I thought oh no, he was also sniffing at the avo and that he would grab it.
That would have annulled my theory.
024.jpg

But not as yay, he rather selected a nut and here was the evidence that my theory was 100% correct.
025.jpg

So the saying, some will and some won't is also at work in the animal kingdom, as I have just shown you that squirrels are just as picky when it comes to shopping for food as we are as humans.
I have seen persons standing in shopping lanes in the supermarkets and reading the content labels on cans and packets to see if it was healthy.
Maybe we have an expert here on Hive in squirrel language that can help me to prapare food labels for the squirrels to read hahahah.

And That's All Friends!

Yep, animals are just like humans, at least when it's about food, and if I didn't know our cats I would know it now 😉

Our Onyx eats almost anything as long as it fills his stomach, while Pete often rather stays hungry, but of course if he doesn't like something he will get something different 🤣

Oh yes, with those cats you have become an animal expert methinks 😀

Our little Troy is also a very fussy eater. He was scratching continuously so we took him to the vet and the vet said that his diet was wrong. He should only eat brown rice with chicken.
So we gave him brown rice and chicken and he didn't eat for 2 days. On the third day he started eating it and now he is on it permanent. After a few days he stopped scratching.

Amazing what diets can do for animals.

Cheers and thanks.

Good day Zac,

(I forgot to greet in the other reply ;)

Maybe we should try the same with our Pete because he really only eats the good things which are not as healthy as the other food - it's like eating cookies all day long 🤣 I'll talk to my wife, but as I know her she will not be able to look away when Pete shows his hungry face... 🤔

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

Age gets to all of us Hannes 😉

The problem is that the wrong diet can cause severe illnesses in later life. Things go wrong that we don't even think about and we didn't know that the wrong diet cases sight and hearing failure for the pets in later life. There is a whole lot of things that go wrong with them.

Marian also cried when Troy wouldn't eat, but I only had to remind her about what the vet said and thankfully he was right, as ourv little guy is full of life again. When he is not sleeping 😉

Cheers and thanks.

Next week our cats have an appointment with the vet - maybe she says that Pete needs a special diet and shouldn't eat the treats anymore - a lot of tears will run for a while, but then he will get used of healthier food, just as Troy did 😀

Hahaha, maybe the vet says that Pete is healthier than the other one, so you will have to buy extra treats at great cost 🤣

Otherwise you should invest in a few boxes of tissues to wipe the wife and Pete's tears.
Pete will certainly start to eat again, as when he wants a treat then you just give him a piece of his new food.

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes, there will be a lot of tissues needed for many many tears. Additionally our daughter isn't at home anymore, so the kitten are crying anyway 😉

Well if I was a cat and you ate my treats while I must eat something that the vet said that I must eat, the answer will be easy.
I will leave a poop under your pillow on the bed every day 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Hahaha, I thought that tease would get you goat 🤣🤣🤣

As it is, I sprayed an actual white naughty cat with water in the garden a little while ago. He was after the Robins.

So I presume that you will not eat the cats treats 😉

Cheers and thanks.

As long as there's enough "normal" food at home the cats treats should be safe 😂

My cat prefers avocado to any ham or fish :D

Both carry nutritional oils, perhaps preference comes as to taste!

Squirrel #2 may not be that hungry, taking the nut off to hide it for later, the avo won't keep!

OK Stephen, I know your garden in small enclosed space offering a variety on the table, you better check those nosy neighbours don't think you and Marian sit down to enjoy the spread 😁 ha ha dippy a doo dah!

Yep and two out of five eats avo, the others will not touch it.
Squirrel #2 is a bigger eater that the first and those nuts were finished in no time.

Then our pregnant little one appeared and she made sure that she ate all of the avo that was left over and then surprise. She came to the window to ask for a nut. She ate 5 of them right here.

Food source is found, now knocking on the window daily!

Enjoy watching the next young ones appear soon, life has started at the bird feed with little ones sitting wobbling around waiting to be fed.

Hahaha, knocking several times a day at times with muddy paws that dirtie the windows. So I have to clean regulary, as I take my shots though the glass. It's cottage pane windows and one desperate squirrel climbs right up to the top.

So nice to get shots of the moms feeding the little ones.

I don't know if !WINE will work, but here goes.

Wow! I have a cat that likes avo in the comments and now a hamster.
Not all rodents as rats and mice don't touch it.

Hopefully it adds longevity to the ham's life. They seem to prefer fatty foods.

Don't know as it might even shorten their lifespan. Best would be for you to do some research on it.
