Common frog (Rana temporaria) from the Kampinos Forest 🐸 / Żaba trawna z Puszczy Kampinoskiej

I spotted her, even though she hid first in the grass and then in dried leaves ... even though her body color was so similar to the color of the leaves that it blended well with the background and camouflaged. It is a common frog that I discovered once during a trip to the Kampinos Forest (it is located in central Poland, near Warsaw).

Wypatrzyłam ją, mimo, że ukryła się najpierw w trawie, a później w zaschniętych liściach... mimo, że kolor jej ciała był tak podobny do koloru liści, że świetnie wtapiała się w tło i kamuflowała. To żaba trawna odkryta przeze mnie kiedyś podczas wycieczki do Puszczy Kampinoskiej.

It is a species of amphibian from the frog family. It belongs to the so-called brown frogs, the name of which is derived from the color of the skin of these animals. The species has a wide range of distribution, covering most of Europe (including the northern coast of the continent) and western Asia. It inhabits a variety of temperate climate habitats, especially forests. It breeds in shallow water bodies. There is a tadpole that feeds on aquatic plants, algae, and small aquatic animals. Adults are carnivores, outside the breeding season they lead a terrestrial lifestyle, hunting at dusk and at night. There are cases of sex reassignment. This amphibian, by the way resistant to cold and unfavorable weather conditions, winters in water, buried in silt. He hibernates in ditches, springs, ponds, lakes, wetlands and rivers. In this case, it prefers flowing waters. It then groups itself into large groups of up to several thousand individuals.

To gatunek płaza z rodziny żabowatych. Należy do tzw. żab brunatnych, która to nazwa bierze się od koloru skóry tych zwierząt. Gatunek posiada szeroki zasięg występowania, obejmujący większą część Europy (w tym północne wybrzeża kontynentu) i zachodnią Azję. Zasiedla różnorodne siedliska klimatu umiarkowanego, zwłaszcza lasy. Rozmnaża się w płytkich zbiornikach wodnych. Występuje kijanka żywiąca się roślinami wodnymi, glonami i drobnymi zwierzętami wodnymi. Osobniki dorosłe są mięsożerne, poza sezonem rozrodczym wiodą lądowy tryb życia, polując zmierzchem i nocą. Zdarzają się przypadki zmiany płci. Płaz ten, swoją drogą odporny na zimno i niekorzystne warunki atmosferyczne, zimuje w wodzie, zagrzebany w mule. Hibernację odbywa w rowach, źródłach, stawach, jeziorach, na mokradłach, w rzekach. W tym wypadku preferuje wody płynące. Grupuje się wtedy w duże grupy liczące nawet kilka tysięcy osobników.

I remember in my childhood, when I used to visit my aunt and we went for a walk on the way close to the river, you could often see little frogs. I took them in my hands. I liked it very much. I watched them for a moment and then put them on the ground. I didn't pick this frog in my hand, I watched it from a distance, but it was still a nice experience.

Niby taki pospolity płaz, niby żyje w takich dużych grupach, a wtedy w lesie zobaczyłam tylko tą jedną żabę. Cieszę się, że ją spotkałam. Bardzo lubię płazy. Pamiętam jak w dzieciństwie, gdy przyjeżdżałam do mojej cioci i szliśmy na spacer po drodze blisko rzeki często można było spotkać małe żabki. Brałam je na ręce. Bardzo to lubiłam. Przyglądałam się im przez chwilę, a później odkładałam na ziemię. Tej żaby nie wzięłam do ręki, obserwowałam ją z daleka, ale i tak było to miłe przeżycie.
