Rumex bucephalophorus in bloom
One of the most common weeds around at this time of the year. And yet only now I took a closer look and photographed it. It is not the most photogenic or the easiest one to shoot. With the very small flowers and long, flimsy stems.
Now it has it's 5 minutes.
Rumex bucephalophorus
Also known as ruby dock. It is native to Mediterranean region and can be easily found closer to the coast. It likes the sandy soil and sunny spots. It can cover large areas and in blooming season it creates a sea of red.
The flowers are super small, just a few mm in length, the whole plant is maybe 15-20 cm tall.
They start to bloom very early in the year in January and and will continue to grown and bloom intensively though the spring, slow down for the summer time when it is the hottest and then will take a break in the late fall.
