Last Iris standing - Moraea sisyrinchium
Spring flowers are one of the cutest! Maybe it is because they are usually, smaller, but have those amazing colours to attract sleepy insects, or maybe because after a winter break anything that start popping from the ground just looks better than it really is :p
Gynandriris sisyrinchium
It is also known under another name: Moraea sisyrinchium and it can be found in the Mediterranean region. Blooming starts in late February and by May they are done.
The flowers are maybe 10 cm tall. I can hardly see the leaves, its like just a flower stem popping directly from the ground. The pretty, blue blooms are about 3-4 cm across. I didn't check if they have any fragrance... for some reason I always forget to smell the flowers.
I was a bit late to catch more of those. After few hours of walking this was the only one I found. Right on the side of a narrow path.
Some years back I was lucky to catch one with some friends. It was the same spot, just earlier in spring and earlier in the day when the sun was still up.

It is always nice to see this wild flowers around during spring, and with bees, it is even more interesting as in the last photo 🐝

This is so funny, because I just wrote a post about my Irises. It is scheduled to post here soon. Yours are just about over and ours are just starting to bloom. Spring is just too short sometimes.
