Nature Motivation Show - #2 - Palm Trees / Palmen

Hello lovely Hiveans and Nature Lovers !

Now that you are all locked up in your accommodations for the next few weeks it is so hard to stay in touch with the beauties of nature out there. So I decided to launch this Nature Motivation Show for you ^^ It will contain 10 episodes and will be published over two weeks. Each day I will present to you one of those episodes, with collected footage from the Botanical Gardens Bochum and the Hohenstein National Park in Witten, so that you can stay sane and still feel like a creation of our Mother Earth, and not like another piece of furniture of your accommodation ;) .. I will cover trees,bushes, carnivorous plants and beautiful flowers, wild forest animals and petting zoo animals, fungi and much more for you 😜 .. Today's episode is about Palm Trees.

German: Jetzt, da wir alle für die nächsten Wochen eingesperrt sind, ist es schwer, in Kontakt mit den Schönheiten der Natur da draußen zu bleiben. Also habe ich beschlossen diese Nature Motivation Show für euch zu starten ^^ Es wird über 2 Wochen insgesamt 10 Episoden geben. Jeden Tag werde ich eine vorstellen, mit Aufnahmen aus dem Botanischen Garten Bochum und dem Nationalpark Hohenstein in Witten, damit ihr euch weiterhin wie eine Schöpfung unserer Mutter Erde fühlen könnt, und nicht wie ein weiteres Möbelstück eurer Wohnung ;) .. Ich werde Bäume, Sträucher, fleischfressende Pflanzen und schöne Blumen, Waldtiere und Streichelzootiere, Pilze und vieles mehr für euch abdecken .. In der heutigen Folge geht es um Palmen

Chamaerops Humilis : Mediterranean Dwarf Palm

The dwarf palms are one of the smallest palm trees that exist. Their stems only get up to 5 m tall and reach a diameter of 30 cm. The leaves grow in groups of 20 single leaflets which can get as long as 1 m. But this palm really loves to grow together in groups. It is rarely found alone, but in a nice social and cute little palm family ^^ The stem possesses sharp spikes as a protection against animals. The Dwarf palm is quite special as it is one of the only two palm species (of about 2800) that found its home in continental Europe and North Africa and therefore easily withstands temperatures below 0 °C.

German: Die Zwergpalmen sind eine der kleinsten Palmen die es gibt. Ihre Stämme werden nur bis zu 5 m hoch und erreichen einen Durchmesser von 30 cm. Die Blätter wachsen in Gruppen von 20 Einzelblättern, die bis zu 1 m lang werden können. Aber diese Palme liebt es, in Gruppen zusammenzuwachsen. Sie ist selten allein zu finden, dafür aber in einer netten sozialen und niedlichen kleinen Palmenfamilie ^^ Der Stamm besitzt scharfe Spitzen als Schutz gegen Tiere. Die Zwergpalme ist etwas ganz Besonderes, da sie eine der beiden einzigen Palmenarten (von etwa 2800) ist, die ihre Heimat in Kontinentaleuropa und Nordafrika gefunden hat und daher Temperaturen von unter 0 °C problemlos standhält.

Washingtonia Filifera : California Fan Palm

This palm is very similar to the Dwarf Palm. But contrary to the Dwarf Palm. It is native to California and West Arizona and not Europa and northern Africa. The California Fan Palm is much bigger and can be up to 20 m in height and 6 m broad. Their stem is also not completely covered by sharp spikes, but rather the upper part and they could also not withstand lower temperatures as well and prefer hotter ones.

German:* Diese Palme ist der Zwergpalme sehr ähnlich. Aber im Gegensatz zur Zwergenpalme stammt sie aus Kalifornien und West-Arizona und nicht aus Europa und Nordafrika. Die Kalifornische Washingtonpalme ist viel größer und kann bis zu 20 m hoch und 6 m breit werden. Ihr Stamm ist auch nicht vollständig von scharfen Spitzen bedeckt, sondern der nur der obere Teil. Sie konnten auch niedrigere Temperaturen nicht so einfach standhalten und bevorzugen heißere.

Aloe Ferox : Bitter Aloe

The Aloe Ferox is a super beautiful and useful palm tree that is is native to South Africa. Contrary to other palm trees this one is a real micro palm, with a height of only 3 m high, which is even smaller that the dwarf palm can get. But therefor it possesses these huge and super thick and fleshy palm leaves. Those can weight up to 2 Kg each and are a source of the aloe gel that is commonly used in cosmetics all over the world._

German: Die Aloe Ferox ist eine super schöne und nützliche Palme, die in Südafrika beheimatet ist. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Palmen ist diese eine echte Mikropalme, mit einer Höhe von nur 3 m ist sie sogar noch kleiner als die Zwergpalme. Aber dafür hat sie diese riesigen, dicken und fleischigen Palmblätter. Diese können jeweils bis zu 2 kg wiegen und sind eine Quelle des Aloe Gels, das häufig in Kosmetika auf der ganzen Welt verwendet wird.

Caryota Mitis : The Fishtail Palm

The Fishtail Palm is native to Southeast Asia. It loves temperatures in the range of 15 to 30 °C and can reach heights of 10 m with a relatively thin stem. They have this awesome fishtails hanging from them. But one thing that someone should keep in mind is that its fruits contain oxalic acid. So touching them or even eating them is a really bad idea. The inflorescence can be used for extraction of palm wine and sugar. Thereby one inflorescence can yield up to 10 liters of sugar juice in the end.

German: Die Fischschwanzpalme stammt aus Südostasien. Sie liebt Temperaturen im Bereich von 15 bis 30 °C und kann mit einem relativ dünnen Stamm Höhen von bis zu 10 m erreichen, und haben diese fantastischen Fischschwänze an ihnen hängen. Aber eine Sache, die jemand im Auge behalten sollte, ist, dass ihre Früchte Oxalsäure enthalten. Sie zu berühren oder sogar zu essen, ist eine wirklich schlechte Idee. Der Blütenstand kann zur Gewinnung von Palmwein und Zucker verwendet werden. Dabei kann ein Blütenstand am Ende bis zu 10 Liter Zuckersaft liefern.
