Hello Nature Lovers !

IMG_20200816_164004.jpg

I would like to cordially invite you to another great week of the Amazing Nature Contest. There were already so many excellent entries regarding how amazing nature can be in the past episodes, thanks to all of you, but there is still so much more to see! ^^ To participate in the #amazingnature contest just create a post that shows how amazing nature is for you personally. This can be anything from a beautiful flower or animal to an astonishing sunset.

What is the Purpose of the Contest ?

I am a huge lover of nature and really enjoy to take pictures of all the lovely things that surround me every day, no matter if those are plants, animals or landscapes. I found Hive to be a brilliant place to find and watch nature pictures from all over the world. There is such a diversity of great content out there, thanks to all of you, from different perspectives and out of various motivations. I would like to collect all those beautiful snapshots and their amazing stories in a weekly compilation so that you can all benefit from the beauty that we are facing all the time, but so often are not able to appreciate in the modern and fast paced times we are living in.

This #amazingnature contest is at home in the DNA-Discord, a organization run by people for the people, with the aim to foster and densify nature-appreciation in the blockchain. DNA is also the home of the #featheredfriends hosted by amazing @melinda010100 🦢 and the @fungilovers hosted by @qwerrie 🍄.

Contest Rules :

  • Please join the Community and POST your entry INTO the AMAZING NATURE COMMUNITY. This makes it a part of it and visible to all other members of the community. You can add the #amazingnature TAG after it if you like.
  • CLEARLY MENTION that your post is an ENTRY for this contest.
  • All pictures have to be your own. You can use the amazing nature banner if you like or create your own.
  • STATE IN THE TEXT why those pictures are representing YOUR AMAZING NATURE. This is an ESSENTIAL part of this contest.
  • Drop the LINK to your post IN THE COMMENTS. You can add a picture if you like. It is NECESSARY as I have to post a link in Discord on Friday, 5 days later for voting and also for my own compiling purposes.
  • The entry window is open for ~ 5 DAYS. Watch out for the -CLOSED in the title.

If you miss the entry, please wait for the next round. As I have to work and also a family to manage, there are no fixed UTC times and the window can open in a wide range between 10 am - 10 pm and therefore also close accordingly ^^

  • The AMAZING NATURE COMMUNITY is there FOR ALL POSTS ABOUT THE AMAZING NATURE AROUND YOU that are not necessarily a contest entry. We would highly appreciate it if you share your great nature content there with us! .. But the contest is also located in this community as an integrated part and special feature .. You can also still use the #amazingnature tag if you like.

Possible Topics :

As nature covers an incredible wide range there is really anything possible. Amazing Natures categories could be anything from the following topics:

  • Botany
  • Zoology
  • Geology
  • Landscapes
  • Philosophy
  • ... Surprise us ^^

AmNa.jpg

Prizes to Win :

  • 1st : 3 HIVE
  • 2st : 2 HIVE
  • 3st : 1 HIVE

I will always try my best to link and present all participants of Amazing Nature in the entries section of the announcement posts that will be published roughly one week later on Sunday (depending on my time schedule this may shift some time ^^). This way you will have a nice compilation of them all. As an special feature, the new title picture of the contest will be created from the entry of the contest winner. This time it is from @lighteye.

How are the Winners chosen ?

The voting for the winners will be done by the whole DNA community. Therefore we created a special contest channel in the DNA Discord (Amazing Nature Contest). Here I will post the announcement post including the winners (Announcements) EACH SUNDAY together with all your entries (Entries) EACH FRIDAY. Every member of DNA will be able to assign "voting emojies" under the entries for 24 HOURS and in the end those three with the most of them are the lucky winners. This I hope should lead to a more objective consideration than just involving myself as a judge. I will engage as a judge in case of a draw ^^

THIS WEEKS WINNERS

The winner of this weeks contest is @lighteye with his great photographic tour through the Rajko Cave. The story is actually divided in two parts, so if you are interested in looking it up please remember to look up both post about the cave ^^ Both posts are really stuffed with a lot of amazing pictures from this gigantic cave and all its beautiful locations within, including some great historical facts. In addition you will find many added information about what Stalactites or Stalagmites are, how they are created over the time and about what all these impressive sculptures that can be found there are actually made of. There is actually so much to see and read that I can not put everything in this descriptions here, hehe .. and if you are interested in caves then you are very lucky, as @lighteye is going to show some more of them ^^

The entry from @annephilbrick is abut the Pickerel frog. Also she lives quite close to the marshes, a wonderful habit for many amphibians and aquatic plants, this little frog here is quite a rare side so close to her cabin and there are usually only Toads and Bullfrogs to be found. Luckily she managed to get some great picture of the frog before he disappeared again. Pickerel frogs are sometimes confused with the northern leopard frog. Leopard frogs spots are round and random, while Pickerel frogs have parallel rows of square-ish spots. Another interesting fact is, that they are herbivorous in the tadpole stage and only become carnivorous as adults. Then their diet is based on worms, ants, beetles spiders and various other insects. Thank you for the nice pictures and information about the Pickerel frog ;)

@annephilbrick

This week @nelinoeva shows us a little compilation of fascinating insects as her entry. She offers us a really well hidden damselfly that landed on the blade of grass which was the same color as the grass. These interesting creatures can make themselves almost invisible. Some mimic the environment so well, others simply blend. She also spotted this amazing yellow colored mantis. They are usually colored in a really fresh green, but she explains us that they actually turn brownish at end of their life cycle, so maybe this is where this unusual color derives from. There is also a really nice picture of a butterfly that really managed to disguise as a leaf, and he is doing it really great. This is a really nice post about how creative nature is to make each individual critter to have its own way of camouflage or with color that warns you and says danger. Thank you for the post @nelinoeva ^^

DNA - Densifying Nature-Appreciation :

IMG_20200208_120948.png

DNA is an organization, managed by @medro-martin, to foster and DENSIFY NATURE-APPRECIATION which aims to establish REPORTS OF BIODIVERSITY DATA that is contributed by all of us Hiveans and subsequently cataloged.

Therefore DNA searches for HIGH-QUALITY posts that aim to DESCRIBE and determine the BIODIVERSITY AROUND YOU with added EXPLANATIONS and INFORMATIONS. For these informative posts they offer a CURATION SERVICE using the @dna.org account. It is also a CURATION TRAIL. Just add the #dna TAG if you think that any of your posts is what they are looking for.

At the moment DNA is also the home of the #amazingnature for all your post about the amazing nature all around us and also the home of the #featheredfriends hosted by the lovely @melinda010100 🦢 for all you great posts about our feathered friends and the #fungifriday hosted by the amazing @qwerrie 🍄 for all your posts about fungi and mushrooms ^^ But we hope that more nature related communities will join, or maybe some Hiveans start their own little project there ;) .. Maybe even you?

It host the REDFISH RALLY, a funny challenge for all those that are new here to the world of Hive. The Terminal also hosts the HEYHAVEYAMET project by @heyhaveyamet, which introduces all new Hiveans on a daily basis, so that you don't have to search for them ^^

THE TERMINAL COMMUNITY

So why not joining us in the THE TERMINAL DISCORD? You will not regret it ^^

Hehe, and this will hopefully never stop ^^ .. It is really great how there are still so many nice facts and information to be found every week .. I was actually really impressed by the fact that the mantis looses its nice greenish color when close to the end of life

Hehe, glad to hear that ^^ .. and even if you run our of material you can write up a philosophically touched entry ;) .. I actually submitted my PhD Thesis, but unfortunately I will have to add some more experimental data and have some additional writing to do before I can submit it again in the next period. So I am still busy with it, but I am refreshed now after a short holiday ^^

Entry: One of the things I like most about the word "nature" are the healing molecules of nature like Carvacrol and it's powerful anti-microbe properties.

Hi there @newworldfreedom !

First of all, thank you for entering the contest. But unfortunately I find it difficult to actually accept this one here as a proper entry. There is not even a link to a post that you created that I could enter for the voting on Friday for the judges. And even if I just put this picture that you submitted in there, I am afraid that you will not get a winning place and end up in the honorable mentions only without a single description of what you are actually planning to do here on Hive.

I did a bit of research on you blog where I found this post here:
https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@newworldfreedom/a-guide-to-understanding-natural-medicine-in-2020-chapter-1-of-52-hive-167922
I looked it up and read a bit about your big project to bring knowledge about natural medicine to the blockchain in 52 chapters, which actually sounds super interesting and valuable. I myself, a scientist who actually knows how our big industrial companies stock medicine is created and used not for the beneficial of the people but the purse of a few, how they are playing with the lack of knowledge of the common people, completely agree with you when it comes to raise the awareness of how simple it can be to just use simple weeds or tree-barks to create your own useful medication for all kind of purposes. The topics of the 52 chapters look really great and it would be a shame to miss the chance to bring this to potentially interested people that are reading through this contest every week.

But I have another suggestion to you. From time to time, during a lack of time not for the last few weeks, I add a "Feature" chapter into the weekly contest announcement post where I feature Hiveans or projects that are potentially interesting for nature interested people on the blockchain. I you would like to write up a short description about you nature medicine series for me in your own words I can add you there with you series. As an examples you can looks up the feature in this one here:
https://peakd.com/hive-127788/@adalger/amazing-nature-contest-june-2020-05
It was about the Marine Science Project by @juanbg. I believe that in a feature you can state your point and promote your great long chaptered project in a far better way. If you are interested in being featured just tell me ! In this case you can comment me a short abstract here, including a link and a picture for interested people that I can put into the Featured section.

Best wishes,
Adalger

Lol, thanks for honorable mentions without a description but were you surprised? 🤠

I'm just coming in from a unjust 30 days Facebook block, I'm used to Facebook really and just speaking the truth without financial or group motivation. I think on your post I was at it too long, hours and hours none stop, I wasn't going to post the entry until I saw the words "surprise me". I thought, why not? :)

I'm glad you know about the topic and your a scientist, I will try to stick to the facts and share knowledge, what field you study if you don't mind me asking?

Excellent offer! I accept! About big or small should the description text be?

Hey there !!

.. Yes, I was really surprised ! At first this picture looked a bit like advertising so I had to look up your blog to get some more information about it, as it actually does not look like the beginning to a guide about natural medicine. I also see that you found the Natural Medicine Community already, which is really good as their members will be highly interested in your Guide. If you are on Discord you should definitely join their server too.

Regarding the Feature, it will be the best to make it as short and on the point as possible. But do it as long as necessary to get all the information into it that you think are needed. If people are interested they will click on the link anyway and will find the complete information.

As we are talking about length right now, I have also one more suggestion to you about the chapters that you are planning to write. I am already quite a while here on Hive and found that texts that are too long are generally demotivating people from going through it all. This is actually a pitty if it is a text that has some really nice message in it. So I would not write posts that are longer than 2000 words in total (about 12 minutes read) and split one chapter into two if they become too long. Your formatting looks already really nice and your are using references in the right way, so the layout is perfect and I believe that your guide has the potential to become an awesome one. But as your target group will be mostly the Natural Medicine Community you could ask in their Discord about their opinion and suggestions to your guide. I believe that they will be helping you a lot in the future ^^

Oh, and one last suggestion. I saw that you are cross-posting quite a lot. There is actually nothing bad in cross-posting, but I saw that you are doing it up to 8 times for a post. I would suggest to you to reduce to number to maybe 3 cross-posts maximum. There are actually Hiveans here that consider this as an overuse of the cross-post feature and mark you as a spammer. It would be a shame if they brand-mark you as one ^^

I hope this was a bit helpful, hehe

Best wishes,
Adalger

I do respect this field for practical applications but for actual human medicine, the molecules of nature are far superior then the inferior ones we produce in labs.

Hehe, when I first started this contest here it was still a challenge with only 1 to 3 participants every week. Even while it grew into a contest it was still ok to choose from 5 to 7 posts ^^ .. But then, suddenly, after forming the Amazing Nature Community, the participant numbers went up to about 30 entries once and all of them were sooooo amazing !! .. This was the moment when I let the community decide to get a better and more beneficial winning poll system. Actually nowadays all the member of DNA are voting on the three winners now with an emoji system in their discord. This works actually quite well and helps a lot with making some new friends among the blockchain between all the participants and voters, hehe ^^ .. Your are always welcome to try out with an entry too ;) .. Thank you for sharing this contest on your blog !!

Wow you guys have all done so well. Congratulations on the continuing success.
Its funny, I feel like I spend hours on here- Well I KNOW I spend HOURS on here, and feel like I get very little done.....But I never find the time to enter all of the contest in the other communities that I want to...

But I will try to find the time.

I bookmarked the page to look at tomorrow anyway.
It's nearly 1.30am and My fingers are having trouble typing...🤣

Hehe, there is just sooo much that you can read, watch and discuss here on Hive that you can spend whole days and nights here ^^ It can be really hard to go and post on a daily basis. I remember that I tried it like that in my beginning here, but after a while it got less and less .. and now I just mainly maintaining Amazing Nature, also I actually have material for so many great posts here :) .. from time to time I work on some drafts. Luckily you can save them if you are using the peakd front-end so that you can prepare any post a long time ago ^^
