Hello!

As you should know, Satoshi Nakamoto capped the supply of Bitcoin. There are going to be just 21,000,000 Bitcoins, and they will all be mined approximately in 2140. But if we take a closer look we can conclude that not all the BTC circulating supply (18,393,000 at this date) are accessible. Some people have lost they keys, some were sent to inaccessible wallet addresses, some may be stored on cold wallets that are lost or destroyed, etc.

There is a lot of debate in the cryptosphere about this topic, while nobody know the exact number, there are some sudies of well reputated firms that calculate an estimate number. I have found the conclusions of a study made by Chainalysis estimates that 20% of the BTC supply is lost forever.

Find below some articles analyzing the results of this study:

This 20% is approximately what the study concludes. They say that between 2.8 million and 3.8 million are lost forever. I am expecting this number to rise over time, however as the price of Bitcoin rises, the difficulty to HODL 1 BTC also rises and the number will keep raising but a lower rate.

Enjoy! 😊
