What DE-FI Can Do For Social Chains

HIVE and the various forks have tried to bring social media to blockchain, and while the features are there, the users have not seen much of a reason to flock over. While the ecosystem is making strides to shed it's crypto-centric content and have more interest sets from gardening and DIY to photography all put on-chain,

I think it's great but the users that kind of content targets are unsophisticated and are not going to set up all sorts of wallets and all that jazz.

Social chains have to accept that the vast majority of their user base is into crypto and that's what they want to talk about, it is indeed an echo-chamber, but it doesn't mean it cannot be used to broaden the service's appeal.

Being good at one thing

So this chain is good at one thing, blogging and chatting with one another, the broader ecosystem needs a place outside Bitcointalk, crypto twitter and crypto Reddit that is immutable and they can set up their forums and communities.

Just like every crypto project has a subreddit, social media accounts a medium blog, discord and telegram servers; they should be having a HIVE/STEEM/BLURT community, whichever they like best.

That should be one of the easier selling points for the ecosystem.

Bringing in investors

Creating content isn't easy, and I feel a lot of people using these chains feel pressured to create content to not lose out on the mining of inflation. This sees quality go down and yield farming go up.

If however, there were other ways to earn that didn't require spamming the chain or producing content when you don't feel like it then it could help ease a lot of the strain and need to dump content on the chain.

That's why I think DE-FI can be an excellent way for users to invest, leverage the chain, earn income and later use the chain for its social purposes. We know people want to come here to reward farm, so why not let them do it constructively with various DE-FI projects.

Bringing in gamers

It's safe to say gaming on ETH is not going to happen; there are so many gaming Dapps that now need to refactor their code and how they interact with the chain to reduce touching the chain and incurring fees, centralising a lot of the data in the process.

Instead, HIVE/STEEM/BLURT has proven gaming works on this chain with Splinterlands and other games doing pretty well versus blockchain games on other chains.

These games could then build on HIVE and then use another crypto as entry points to buy and sell instead of having to get HIVE. Which is why I Think SMTs' are still worth creating.

If we could have wETH on HIVE users could then send their ETH and transfer it at zero cost on this chain, game all they want and then ake their ETH back onto the main chain when they want.

Social is the anchor, but its time to spread out

The social mining will always be a part of the chain I am sure of that, in what form it may change I don't know though. However, if the chain doesn't embrace other chains and finding ways to leverage into other dapps and vice versa we'll never truly tap into all that could be in the crypto space.
