Looking up at Mars

My son sent me this photo of his view of Mars in the night sky.

I sent him back this photo of my view.

At the beginning of October MARS was a mere 62.1 million kilometres (38.6 million miles) away from Earth, the closest it'll be for the next 15 years. It is getting further away but is still quite bright.

For me, it was visible just after dark, while looking southeast.

Jupiter and Saturn are clearly visible looking southwest.

Remember to look up

We have been having exceptionally warm November weather, so it has been wonderful to sit outdoors. I understand that is about to change and much more typical temperatures are on the way!

Thanks! That was with my phone. I don't think the real camera would have done better because Google does pretty good with night mode.

The coolest part of that for me is realizing that people far away can unite in the same instant by looking up and seeing the same thing. Then I think that every person in history have looked upon the same thing. Then I remember that some people think the world is flat.

Too much thinking and not enough celestial gazing!

It was fun to have that instant connection with my kids, who are 150 miles away!

We are all better off when we take time to star gaze! 🌟

So it is very different! I think lately I'm not around here that much, the internet doesn't help much and these days I've had some work. My mom asks about you every day❤

That is so sweet of her. Give her a hug from me! I think of both of you often, too. I know these low prices don't help pay the bills, but now is the best time to get paid more tokens for the work you do here, so keep posting and save your tokens for when the price goes back up!

Yesterday she told me not to forget to write to you. That for her you are a wonderful person. That's right, the prices are low but even so I try to publish often, and I have even been writing in steemit but I keep everything in steem power, it may help me with that in the future. The good thing is that I have sold some cakes and that helps with the expenses of the house.

That is true, many of my friends tell me that you are still on that page that does not give anything and I tell them that this page has given me so much

I often watch the night sky as I head out to work, when it's a reasonably clear night I will take a mental note where the Moon is then noting the significant stars. No real reason, just wanted to know where the Moon is. 🦇

It's a great way to connect with our natural world and so many people have lost touch with the night sky. Pausing to watch the sunset each day is another great way to connect with the Universe.

I think Mars was out shown by all the varied lights in the apartment building and the tree 'fingers'. Both shots get the imagination going.

Here are some haiku for you

specs light the planet
a world dims to a light spec
per your perSPECtive

shadowed limbs and trunks
fingers grasp for far away worlds
uproot in the reach

Yep. It is the same planet. I love how we were both sitting outdoors and he was looking at it in Chicago, and I was seeing the same sight in Wisconsin!
