“This Black bird tends to play with sharp pointy things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

I know I am obligated to participate. Honor calls me.
A Member,
A Sister,
And a MOD so if you are going to follow my lead and enter this First LADIES of HIVE contest then you better get up to speed with the Original rules of this Contest Post.

So setting aside my regularly scheduled writing of Part 11 of Sister Teresa D’Mordecai Click Here if you are curious. My favorite is Part 7 but I digress.

My Choice: What was the last thing you used in the house?

I got an ideal where to start, but when to end was a vague point. So, under that presumption this post should be more on the Journey there than that the Destination.

I drive home from work in my Son’s 2001 Silver Honda to this…

Fall is here, time start to be wrapping up the victory garden.

I didn’t feel like shopping hence arriving home without a practical dinner solution. Taking a moment to look at my withering Victory garden I gained some satisfaction of having a reasonably successful growing season sharing the fresh produce with my fiend and Tenant. And shaving down some grocery expenses for the long term. I snapped out my Samsung 8A Smartphone to take a quick shot.

image.png
Harvesting the last of the green beans too, the rest will be kept for seed next Spring.

Using a pair of scissors, I picked a handful of green beans. My kids were not great fans of green beans as they will only have a few reluctant bites often mixing it with another dish as in a Stir fry. There is perhaps enough for two more meals left on the vines before saving the remaining larger mature pods for next Spring’s seed.

After picking the last these over the weekend I seated these green tomatoes in the sun to ripen on an old cookie sheet rather than let them fall to the ground and begin to rot. With the lack of a better place to leave them out in the sun I just simply placed them on the ground and pick up the whole sheet the moment I get the hint of rain. I recall @silversaver888’s recent Fried Green tomato article fresh in my mind.

Spaghetti Squash, Photo was taken about 2 weeks earlier.

The Spaghetti Squash seemed to grow well, I recall starting them off manually pollinating these using a little paint brush eight to ten weeks earlier and snipped them off with the Garden Snips last weekend. The squash sat on my kitchen counter for the week and now I am itching to taste one this afternoon. I’ll expect a slight Acidy taste to at least one of the two.

The shell was a bit hard to cut with my chef’s knife, so I donned my red Haori Kimono and powered up with “Shorty” my 30” Damascus 1040 Steel Japanese Wakizashi sword.

The Wakizashi is a short sword designed for confined spaces like indoor kitchens. Toughened medium carbon steel forge folded over two thousand layers, kitchen serviceable for light duty use like cracking an egg or walnut without any rattle. The handle is shorter than a typical Katana but still long enough that I can hold it with two hands. And makes short work of those stubbornly tough gourds.

After scooping out the seeds, that I kept for next spring, I brush the inside flesh with a little olive oil and rub in a bit of brown sugar. Bake on parchment for 30 minutes at 400 degrees F. Allow to cool for 20 minutes and serve!

image.png
Hey, these squash taste quite good!

The result is Delicious, with a delicate stringy texture and very little acidy taste too.
This was a first time for my kids and naturally they turned their noses at this bounty of fresh spaghetti squash. Well then, it’s more for me. I believe this will be great on the Hibachi grill next Summer's end.

The Last thing!

Then finally, the last thing I used was my Home Computer to upload this post! I know it is NOT very exciting but there you go.

I will be planning on picking up a Pizza 🍕 tomorrow, too busy to cook. Not very exciting stuff I'm afraid and so ends this little insight in what goes on in my home and perhaps earn a worthy mention by the judges of this inaugural contest for the Ladies of Hive.

May all be Loved, Blessed, Encouraged and Empowered. ❤️

It's a nice change from my usual shtick Sis with a bit of a twist.
I tried thinking about the $100, spent 3 - 4 hours online until my head almost exploded and so I went for the next obvious question.

I'll save my Gothic fashion choice Wish list for another time/contest.

I hope you are recovering fine Sis. Always, with Love 🤗 🌺 💖

The skills we learn from growing our own will turn out to be valuable over the long haul. Even tough it may be a small patch now, who knows what SHTF scenario will happen in the near future. Best be proactive and be prepared.

That squash did not stand a chance!

Hadn't heard the term "Victory Garden" before so had to look it up. I'll have to make sure our new house has room for one.

PS - Good luck with the contest. It's another kick ass post from you so you'd get my vote (if only it was worth something :p)

Victory Garden, I believe was a term used by the English people in the World War to grow a patch of vegetables, no matter how modest it may be, as part of the war effort, whether it was consumed by the grower or donated to others as food supplies were sporadic in time of war.
I like to use old anachronistic words and terms in my writing as it gives it a dated feel and cultural context.

🍅 Why stop at Squash when there's pizza to slice! 🍕
Top is "Fluffy" my 40" Battle Katana for the extra-Large Pizzas over 22" while,
Bottom is "Shorty" my 30" Wakizashi for smaller Pizzas under 22" diameter.

A very intriguing entry. I love that sword! OMG ... it's great! And your garden looks wonderful. It's always good to eat fresh food you grew yourself.

Yes very nice and it sure was an interesting journey to read. Thank you for sharing this!

The soil is typically acid because of the Conifer trees but a few years of careful liming has finally made the produce much better. With grocery prices climbing faster than my wages I will be investing more time and energy into my vegetable garden and expand it gradually.

Yum what a delicious post!

I love Spaghetti Squash, green beans and fresh veggies in general.

I've never had fried green tomatoes. Not a thing over here. Anywhere that I know of, but I tell you what, the movie is still one of my all time favourites and as much as I don't like re-watching movies, that is one that I have watched about half a dozen times now....What a true classic. Oh Idgy...

It will be on the dinner menu as fried semi-green-fried-tomatoes on Sunday, I kind of doubt my kids will try them so I'll have second side of garden veggies like more beans. They already don't like the squash, Lol! More for me.

Thanks for dropping in again on my post @chocolatescorpi

Yummm sounds intriguing. One day I'll have to ring your doorbell to try some!

Have you thought about making actual spaghetti out of the squash and then putting a pasta sauce in it? They would ever know the difference! 😀
