Is Garlic Spray Effective: Bok Choy Plant Update (03.18.20)

Here's another update regarding my bok choy plants. The last update was on March 13 and if you've been following my gardening journey, most likely, you know about my frustration of growing bok choys and keeping away pests from them.

Some users here have suggested me of natural ways to keep off grasshoppers from eating the bok choy leafs. There's a handful of suggestions and out of that, I chose to try the garlic spray, because it's the cheapest and easiest way for me.

The instruction I saw online was 2 bulbs of garlic + 10 cups of water. Boil it then on the spray bottle, fill 1/4 of the container with the mixture and add 3/4 water. (1:3 ratio) You then spray it on the bok choy after watering them.

It's been almost a week since I began spraying garlic and guess what? They seem effective! The bok choys are now recovering and growing its leaves faster and larger because pests no longer eat them. The downside, however, of using garlic spray is the slight bitter taste of the plant. Lol.

I thank the Ecotrain community for the suggestions! Because of your suggestions we can add something on our plates later on while going out is being limited due to the pandemic.

I'm so glad to see you trying that - great job! I add a little bit of cheap local Thai-market level tobacco. And a tiny tiny bit of soap. A drop of dishsoap of a small shaving of bar soap - it helps the spray adhere to the leaves. Putting ash and or coffee grounds on the earth around the plants helps too - the slugs HATE crawling on that!

Super nice to see you growing yummy bok choy and growing your own food.
