Found The Culprit Behind Our Plant Eaters

avatar

I think I've found the culprit behind our plants getting bald! šŸ˜¤ So awhile ago, my mom and I went to water the plants and while staring at the bok choys feeling pity for them, I saw an insect that could be the possible culprit.

Grasshoppers!

I've actually found two. Sadly, my mom sent them to the next life (because I told her to do so). She told me that the type of grasshoppers chilling on our mini garden were the grasshoppers who devour leaves a lot. Ah, no wonder!

I remember I've posted a photo of the grasshopper near the bok choys before. I thought it wouldn't harm the plants, so careless of me! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Anyway, I hope they're only two and just accidentally traveled to the plants. But what if there's a family of them hiding somewhere and tomorrow the mother appears? šŸ˜°šŸ˜‚ I hope not! Hahaha!

they are such cool creatures.. i have about a trillion of them on my lawn! luckily they only eat the grass.. im sure there is a nice eco friendly spray you can put on your most precious plants to save them? Heres a few options:

Apply a Garlic Spray. Garlic odor can help deter grasshoppers and other common garden pests. ...
Dust the Leaves with Flour. Flour can cause grasshoppers to starve by gumming up their mouth. ...
Introduce Natural Predators. ...
Set up a Long Grass Trap. ...

good luck!

I'm with @eco-alex - PLEASE don't kill them!!

You can easily make a great natural spray by boiling a handful of garlic cloves with a handful of cheap tobacco. Let is cool, strain, and add a few drops of dishsoap to help it adhere to the leaves. A decoction of neem (or many other bitter herbs) works well too.

The critters keep our gardens healthy. The other thing to say is to simply plant a bit more than we need so everyone can eat, even our grasshopper buddies.

Keep up the great posts, blogging, photographs, vlogging & inspiration.

Hi! Yes, we would no longer kill them. I searched awhile ago and we'll try the garlic solution tomorrow. :)
