Sweet Potato Vine update
Just about every day I find new vines trying to conquer its surroundings. The vines have emerged from the slips and cut up Sweet Potatoes and are really on the move.
The cut up chunks of Sweet Potatoes are doing the best. Though the slips I started were much smaller than I would have liked.
The slips have their own bed and are growing. Much slower than the chunks. Both are a few inches deep in wood chips. It's working well holding in moisture. Something these spuds can never get enough of.
I have been training some of plants on a trellis, I have to be real careful as the young vines break easily. I find myself snapping them by accident all the time.
I placed slips along with chunks, and I find the later again doing the best. The one that's grown from a chunk is already making itself around the side of the staircase.
Maybe by the end of the season this trellis will be completely filled in with leaves from the vine.
Looking forward to digging up the spuds in the fall or early winter, I think the raised bed shown in the first picture will have the most. But I'm pretty sure every bed and place I got them growing will yield some.
Even the Sweet Potatoes growing in the hugelkulture are making a run for the trellis. I started training it on there as well.
Trellis with vines are always pretty... :)
Just had one today... store bought one...😊
Ah nice.. that's how I started mine, bought some and then cut them up when they got too old and formed eyes.. some I didnt even wait for eyes.. just cut them up and dried them.
