Hello lovely friends
Indonesia is known as an agricultural country with the staple food of rice. As people who live in an agricultural country, it is fitting that we cultivate food crops. One of them is rice. Rice as a staple food needs to be treated well. One way is to protect plants from pests. With proper handling, it is hoped that it will produce a good harvest.

As a person who cultivates this, I also control the rice fields that I manage. Last Sunday I went to the rice fields to see the rice we have planted. I do this as a routine in caring for rice cultivation. All of course for the sake of getting a satisfying harvest. Because I believe that with good treatment we will reap good results too.

Crabs, indirect pests

While in the rice fields I passed an embankment which became a way for people to get to the desired rice field. However, how sad it was to find that the embankment contained a crab hole. So many holes that water always seeps into the rice plants. As a result, rice cannot grow properly because it is always submerged in water. Rice roots didn't have a chance to get stronger.
This of course greatly inhibits rice growth. If this is allowed, it will certainly reduce crop yields.
In fact, crabs are pests that do not directly damage rice plants. They will only stay in the paddy fields while looking for their own food. They do not destroy the rice by tearing the rice stalks. However, the crab holes cause water to pool in the rice fields. This can be a serious problem when we want to drain the land, while the crab holes will become a source of water seepage.
Remembering that, I immediately used a hoe to pry open the embankment with the crab holes. From the holes I got crabs. I caught the crabs one by one. Each hole contains one crab. They will hide at the end of the hole in the ground. I put my hand in and felt the crab. After I was sure of the existence of crabs I caught.img20201011131903_1_.jpg
Some of the crabs I caught put up a fight. Some tried to run to avoid being caught. There were also those who when arrested fought back. They pinched my fingers. It hurts. Especially when I was about to remove their claws, it turned out that the claws had broken off from the crab's body. I tried to pull the broken pincers. However, it turned out that the claws were getting stronger. if I force it to pull it will definitely tear the skin and cause wounds. Finally, I bit the claws and it turned out that the claws could come off by themselves. This trial and error has succeeded in releasing the finger from the crab's grip. To prevent the crabs from nesting again, I beat their shells to death.

fixing

After making sure there were no more crabs in the hole, I went back to fixing the embankments. In this way, the bunds are tight again and no water can leak into the rice plant area. This is one step to treat rice fields from pests. The absence of crabs on the paddy fields makes water regulation for land drying easier.
In this way we can make the rice fields more controlled. The hope of a better harvest will not be wiped out. I feel proud to be a farmer. This is in line with the spirit of our country as an agricultural country and will be self-sufficient and secure in food through rice self-sufficiency.
That is the Sunday activity that I can share with all my friends. Hopefully this is useful for all of us.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you enjoy it.
