QOTW: WHAT IS ABOUT MUSIC?
Music is a kind of art combined with a sound, talent, and emotion of one person. It's a perfect getaway for someone to relax depending on the mood they feel.
Some people are fond of listening to music while doing their work. There are also people who don't like it. Some of them love the mellow sound if music and sometimes, they love rock songs and brought them to dance.
When I was a child, my Uncle and Aunties were all music lovers. We had no tv set before but using a radio FM was famous at that time. I remember my Auntie when we went to the farm, we brought the radio and made the sounds of music to full volume. It helped us felt relax and satisfied though we were working hard under the heat of the sun.
During my first grade in school, my Auntie taught me how to sing a song. I didn't know how to read yet but she was teaching me word for word to the lyrics and let me memorized the whole song. It was a song You Needed Me. I did it and performed my first public appearance in front of the audience during our school closing program. I love music and I love to sing in my elementary grade. I was proudly recognized by the whole community because of that talent.
I was supposed to enroll in a piano and guitar lesson every Saturday but my mother disagreed with it. It was offered by my adviser teacher. I was supposed to be happy but saddened by my frustration. I am the eldest among siblings and I was the one who helped my parent taking care of my siblings. That is why my ambition for music was halted.
More different aspect of music
When I came here in Saudi Arabia, the family that I have been working is so conservative related to their culture and religion. There was no music at all. The tv only plays with Quran reading from the mosque and national news. They said music is prohibited according to their religious teaching which was based on their Holy Quran. Music is a work of the devil and satan. I respect them all and my love for music was eventually gone. How many years I never heard music and just kept on moving with my works. It happened for the first decade of my staying here in Saudi Arabia.
Time goes by, the little children need to watch tv with cartoons. I remember they were addicted to Tom and Jerry. I was addicted too. Little by little as time passed by, the culture was gradually changing for the new generation. I heard music for children derived from cartoon shows and movies. The mindset of the old people stuck up on what they believe according to their belief but the world of changes has come to the new era. The new generation of people is obviously changing.
After living around two-decade in this place, I already heard music around. The oldest granny here was dead, she was against all about music. My employers now are also adopting music much more from their children. They listen to all The Voice talent shows yearly and The Arab Got Talent Show.
To, believe it or not, I am not so fond of music anymore. I could not sing a song anymore like before. I felt I am already far behind the new society of the modern world. Being isolated for very long years, I felt different and traumatized but thank God I am now on the process of moving on most especially when I became active in the latest blockchain.
I am now starting listening to some old music from the 1960s, the '70s, '80s, and 90's music. It breaking the sound of silence for how many long years in my life.
Music is the sound of silence that made my day. It made me cried and laughed when the song hit my heart.
