Hello Hivers! This is my first post in this community and I hope to keep participating in every QOTW.

When I was younger, I did not know what stress was such that I desired to grow up quickly and be an adult. This thought came from the belief that adults had everything easy and smooth for them. I was wrong.

Stress results from efforts we make to live a comfortable life. Still, no matter how we strive, there are certain factors that can inhibit the achievement of our goals. I remember that this time last year, the Nigerian government had already declared a nationwide lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Adhering to the lockdown directive was a bit hard for most citizens. Law enforcement officers had to be in duty especially on the roads to prevent motorists and people from moving around. The question arose as to how people would survive without basic amenities. It was a stressful period and still is.

I had to stay off work for the duration of the lockdown. I witnessed mothers going from house to house begging for food for their children's survival. I had to find a way for my family to be comfortable during that period. It was a stressful situation. These are some of the ways I de-stress.

Prayer - Usually when I am stressed, I pray a lot and it gives me relief. Praying is all about talking to God. However, I do this not only when I am stressed but every other time.

Eating Healthy - I am tempted to eat junk food as comfort but I have learned to deal with this craving by staying hydrated with water and/or fruits with high water content like water melon, pineapple and cucumbers. It keeps me full and keeps the craving away.

Gratitude And Positivity - Overcoming stress becomes easy when we cultivate a positive mindset which flows from gratitude. Since I have learned to count my blessings rather than complain, it lowers my stress level and keeps me in a good mood. Though circumstances may want to erode this, I stay positive and choose to look at the good things of life rather than mourn any loss or wish things were different.

¡Hola Hivers! Esta es mi primera publicación en esta comunidad y espero seguir participando en cada QOTW.

Cuando era más joven, no sabía lo que era el estrés que deseaba crecer rápidamente y ser un adulto. Este pensamiento surgió de la creencia de que los adultos tenían todo fácil y sin problemas para ellos. Estaba equivocado.

El estrés es el resultado de los esfuerzos que hacemos para vivir una vida cómoda. Aún así, no importa cuánto nos esforzamos, existen ciertos factores que pueden inhibir el logro de nuestras metas. Recuerdo que en esta época del año pasado, el gobierno nigeriano ya había declarado un cierre nacional debido a la pandemia del covid-19.

Adherirse a la directiva de bloqueo fue un poco difícil para la mayoría de los ciudadanos. Los agentes del orden tenían que estar de guardia, especialmente en las carreteras, para evitar que los automovilistas y las personas se movieran. Surgió la pregunta de cómo sobreviviría la gente sin las comodidades básicas. Fue un período estresante y todavía lo es.

Tuve que quedarme fuera del trabajo mientras duró el encierro. Fui testigo de madres que iban de casa en casa pidiendo comida para la supervivencia de sus hijos. Tuve que encontrar una manera de que mi familia se sintiera cómoda durante ese período. Fue una situación estresante. Estas son algunas de las formas en las que me desestreso.

Oración - por lo general, cuando estoy estresado, oro mucho y me alivia. Orar es hablar con Dios. Sin embargo, hago esto no solo cuando estoy estresado sino en cualquier otro momento.

Comer sano - Me siento tentado a comer comida chatarra como consuelo, pero he aprendido a lidiar con este antojo manteniéndome hidratado con agua y/o frutas con alto contenido de agua como sandía, piña y pepinos. Me mantiene lleno y aleja el antojo.

Gratitud y positividad - superar el estrés se vuelve fácil cuando cultivamos una mentalidad positiva que fluye de la gratitud. Dado que he aprendido a contar mis bendiciones en lugar de quejarme, reduce mi nivel de estrés y me mantiene de buen humor. Aunque las circunstancias quieran erosionar esto, me mantengo positivo y elijo mirar las cosas buenas de la vida en lugar de lamentar cualquier pérdida o desear que las cosas fueran diferentes.

Stress isn't good but one can't avoid it. You have highlighted ways to de-stress especially the gratitude way. I have loved to thank God rather can complain. Ever since I have always thank Him, He has always helped me out and make me feel good again.
