A little bit of color came to give me the achiote tree these days, the truth is that they have been hard days, but little by little there is an improvement, so hope prevails and it is the last thing that is lost. I remember that last year the annatto tree gave us its first fruits.

After we harvested the achiote fruit, my mother cut down practically the whole tree. My astonishment was great since we had never had a plant like this and I did not know how it would react to such drastic pruning; however, as the months went by, it became populated again with leaves and has recently bloomed.

You can even see some of its fruits, which makes me very excited because with it I will have a good amount of marinade to prepare after I get out of all this. Achiote besides giving beautiful color to our meals adds flavor and has many medicinal properties, which make this a plant that we should all have in our homes.

The petals of these beautiful and delicate flowers leave a pink carpet on the ground under the tree, where our Amazon tortoises feast. The truth is that today I have enjoyed watching them eating the flowers, so let's say that besides giving us the pleasure of seeing how beautiful they are, they serve to feed the tortoises.

Un poco de color me vino a regalar el árbol de achiote en estos días, la verdad es que han sido días duros, pero de a poco hay mejoría, así que la esperanza prevalece y es lo último que se pierde. Recuerdo que el año pasado el árbol de achiote nos dio sus primeros frutos.

Luego de que cosechamos los frutos de achiote mi madre corto prácticamente todo el árbol, mi asombro fue muy grande, pues nunca habíamos tenido una planta de estas y no sabía cómo podía reaccionar a esa poda tan drástica, sin embargo, con el paso de los meses fue poblándose nuevamente de hojas y recientemente ha florecido.

Incluso ya se pueden ver algunos de sus frutos, lo cual me hace mucha ilusión, pues con ello tendré para hacer una buena cantidad de adobo que pretendo preparar luego que salga de todos esto. El achiote además de brindar un hermoso color a nuestras comidas le añade sabor y tiene muchísimas propiedades medicinales, que hacen de esta una planta que todos deberíamos tener en nuestros hogares.

Los pétalos de estas hermosas y delicadas flores dejan una alfombra rosa en el suelo bajo el árbol, donde se dan un buen festín nuestras tortugas del amazonas, la verdad es que hoy he disfrutado de verlos comiendo las flores, así que digamos que además de darnos el placer de ver lo hermosas que son, sirven para alimentar a las tortugas.
