Yoho Yolo

(Edited)

I'm increasingly running up against that wall called "time"; there just isn't enough of it. When you think about it, it is the only scarcity facing human beings in this entire university. Doing my day job, taking care to spend time with my family and friends and writing daily posts... Sometimes I think it's too much for me to handle and it causes me to not take enough time to always respond adequately to your very much appreciated comments, my dear readers, and for that I sincerely apologize. How I sometimes wish I was a photon...

I know that's not a very effective apology, for there's the option for me to simply make other choices; I could spend less time reading articles and watching videos to keep informed, or I could just make a post every other day, or even just once a week and make it a helluva post every time AND have enough time left for my fellow bloggers on Steemit, Trybe and Hive... Still, I think my apology is a lot better than the non apology made by congressman Ted Yoho after he called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a "fucking bitch". I'm really tired of racists saying that they can't possibly be racist because they have a "black friend". Or even worse, racist apologists who are black themselves and hide behind the color of their own skin for the same reason. And here we have Ted Yoho hiding, in his dreadful excuse for an apology, behind the fact that he's married and has two daughters. He uses the females in his family to safe face and to score political points; disgusting.

WATCH: Ted Yoho's Non-Apology Apology After Calling AOC "F*cking B*tch"

To illustrate I share two videos today; above is Kyle Kulinski's commentary on the failed apology, and below is AOC's full response to that apology. I think she handled it brilliantly, or at least as good as something as sensitive and ugly like this can be handled. I'm glad she used the exact words Yoho used against her, "fucking bitch", because chances are that much of the mainstream media would soften the language to some sort of euphemism, taking away from the severity of the white male privilege exhibited by this white male Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives. One good thing has come out of this for me personally though; Yoho's name immediately reminded me of another name, Yayo, a character from the brilliant 1995 movie Get Shorty, a clip from which I share with you as a third, bonus video. At the bottom of this short post.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Full Response to Rep. Ted Yoho

This is the face of white male privilege and white supremacy. It's not always exhibited in a conscious or deliberate way, and some of it is attributable to a natural tendency to favor the in-group, something I believe we all share to some extent. That does not excuse us from trying to be conscious of its existence though, to look away from its very real consequences, or to try to make a better world for each other. Now, in closing, please enjoy the clip from Get Shorty where crime lord Mr. Escobar comes to America to collect his crime money and his nephew, Yayo. If you haven't seen this magnificent movie yet, I highly recommend you see it sometime if you have the opportunity to do so. For me, I choose to keep this post short, so I can watch Get Shorty again ;-)

I hadn't heard any of this! What would I do without your posts, which are always brilliant already? I'm like you - spending so much time trying to figure out what is going on that I don't have time to post, although I did manage to put up a poem that I like today.

AOC did very very well. Thanks for posting it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe I have a poem to check out 😄
