Ultimate Villain

You may be delighted to know that for once I'm not talking about Donald Trump; how could I? He's a bad person in my opinion for sure, but the Ultimate Villain? No, this short post is not about Trump or any other earthly villain; today we're briefly talking about that greatest of all villains, God.

If there's one thing that I hate about the dire state of the economy and politics worldwide, it's that thinking and writing about it prevents me spending more time on life's greater questions. For years I've been an avid follower of modern day atheists like Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens (may he rest in peace) Daniel Dennett and so on, as well as a faithful (pun intended) follower of their debates with defenders of The Bible. Lately however I've become less of a fan because I've begun to recognize that these scientists can sometimes be as arrogant as their God fearing opponents. Sometimes they pretend to be so sure about their own point of view, when in fact science is, in its very essence, the ultimate game of eternal doubt; that's why the highest degree of certainty achievable is that of a theory. It's not the "certainty of evolution" or the "certainty of relativity"; they will forever remain theories, or as long as no better theory comes along at least. Science speaks in terms of probabilities, not absolute truths. Faith, which is believing without evidence, deals in truths.

So, to me God is an imaginary character, a character like any other in books and films. And although I'm very much aware of how evil God can be, especially in the Old Testament, I've never thought of Him as a villain, which I now think is very strange. After watching the video I share with you today, I'm actually amazed that it never occurred to me that God may be The Ultimate Villain. In my life that title always belonged to Darth Vader and Sauron, in that chronological order, and very recently that short list was expanded with the Marvell villain Thanos. And if I would ever think of a Biblical villain, it would be Satan of course. But after watching and listening to the well reasoned arguments of YouTuber DarkMatter2525, Yahweh has got to go on that list too. I've been following him off and on for a couple of years now, and I recommend you watch his brilliant cartoons as well, but this one I somehow missed. If you're a very religious person, maybe skip this one, but all others I invite to watch this 20 minute video. And while you're at it, I also strongly recommend his Samson Trilogy and his series on "Power corrupts".
