Trump's 12 Accomplishments

This is a short post about ex-president Donald Trump; by the time you read this post Joe Biden will already be inaugurated as the 46th POTUS. And although Biden's presidency will undoubtedly be thoroughly disappointing in many ways, at least he's not a proto-fascist like the POTUS that has just left the White House.

Fascism is rather difficult to define, as it's not an ideology in and of itself. I've written about this many times during Trump's reign over the world's most powerful nation, but the main reason that it's hard to rigidly define fascism is that it's essentially an extreme reaction to the perceived rise of leftist and progressive politics and movements, and therefore fascism will have its own distinct characteristics in every country that allows its rise to prominence. However, in his 1995 essay "Ur-Fascism", cultural theorist Umberto Eco lists fourteen general properties of fascist ideology that are generally agreed upon in academic circles. He argues that it is not possible to organize these into a coherent system, but that "it is enough that one of them be present to allow fascism to coagulate around it". He uses the term "Ur-fascism" as a generic description of different historical forms of fascism.

In it Beau of the Fifth Column lists twelve of Trump's accomplishments as seen by his right wing supporters, and two criticisms that even his supporters would agree with, fourteen points in total... You already see where this is going. And if you're a regular reader of my blog, none of this is news, but this short video drives home the point that under Trump we've seen the uprising of fascism in a way I never could. So open the list and listen to Beau while he describes the twelve accomplishments and two criticisms, and see how perfectly they overlap with the fourteen points of fascism... Trump's not the POTUS anymore, but it'll take a while and something better than Biden or the Democratic party to change the minds of the millions of Americans who are apparently perfectly happy to support the things that are closely associated with fascism.
