The Freak Show Must Go On

That's what the Trump campaign must have thought when they decided to arrange a covid joy ride for the POTUS. He got into a hermetically sealed car with some security agents to wave at his supporters and to show what a strong leader he is...

One reader responded to my post Covid-19 Doesn't Care Who You Are as follows: "Trump getting a fake virus right before the election, conveniently quarantined away from rallying? This is all theatre." He is obviously worried that someone somewhere gave Trump the virus in order to impede his election campaign, and this opinion is shared widely among his supporters online. This is however just one theory that's going around; I've read that Trump could be pretending to have covid-19 as part of a plan to arrest Hillary Clinton. In the linked article Trump's tweet that said "We'll get through this together" is rephrased as "We'll get through this to Get Her"... It's safe to say that misinformation and wild conspiracy theories are spiking now that the POTUS has contracted (or not?) the virus. But we also know that sometimes these theories become truth, in fact many times they do, but usually we only learn about it years later, so for now all we can do is speculate...

I also have a theory, and it's one that doesn't care if Trump's pretending or not and if the virus is real or not: the consternation surrounding Trump's hospitalization has all but erased from the public memory his awful debate performance. You know, the one in which he urged his white nationalist supporters to intimidate voters at the polls and refused to condemn white supremacists (because he doesn't want to chase away that large part of his supporter base). If you watch the below linked video, you'll also notice the rhetoric used by Trump's campaign now that he's fighting to get through this infection; they speak in terms of war, about the virus that has "attacked" America, fomenting more hate against China, and in terms of how Trump heroically faces the virus "head-on", setting the wrong example for his supporters once again. You see, Trump will benefit from two things in November. Firstly he'll benefit from his supporters voting in person, which is why he continues with setting the wrong example. Secondly, and this has been mentioned on many occasions in the MSM as well as online, he benefits from civil unrest, which is why all his rhetoric is divisive instead of uniting.

Sure, Biden's lead in the polls has grown after the first debate, but like I said, everybody seems to have already forgotten that freak show and we all know that polls are often wrong, and that the numbers can change overnight when this masterfully played theater of a victimized, heroically triumphing Trump is swallowed by the general public. Wow, what crazy times we live in...
