Don't Answer! (Or Lie)

That was Mike Pence's strategy in yesterday's Vice Presidential debate. He also took note from Trump's strategy and just didn't shut up until long after his time was up; just like with Trump, the moderator had to remind the Republican candidate of the debate-rules both campaigns agreed upon.

I don't have too much to say about this. Maybe I'll highlight the one truth coming out of Mike Pence's mouth on a substantial subject: when he said that the air now is cleaner than ever in recent history, he wasn't lying. The problem is that it has nothing to do with some accomplishment of the Trump administration, and everything to do with the fact that there are less cars driving and less factories running on account of the pandemic. This also highlights Kamala Harris' greatest weakness during this debate; she should have mentioned that and also that the Trump administration got rid of some 100 environmental protection measures. But hey, Mike Pence all on his own reaffirmed for the public that he and his party don't care about science when asked about climate change...

Kamala harris on the other hand gave all the answers that would have lost the Democrats the elections under normal circumstances; she boasted about her and Joe Biden having the broadest supporter base in recent history, probably referring to recent polls in which Biden's lead is growing among all demographics, save white males without a college degree, but that's because everyone is against Trump, not because something special she and Biden did or promised. Although, and I couldn't believe my ears when it happened, she did mention that she would decriminalize marijuana. For me, that was a surprise and we'll have to wait and see if she and Biden really would take this measure because it would be a blow to the prison industrial complex that owes so much of their income to Biden's criminal justice reforms. And I don't believe it was a particularly good idea to boast about having the support from all the neocons that lied the country into an illegal war under Bush...

All in all, in my opinion we once again saw two candidates who have little to offer to the American people, with one side being slightly less terrible than the other, mainly because of their plans on climate change. I mean, what's a voter to do when one blames the other for cheerleading communist China, and the other blames the one for cheerleading communist Putin..? The absolute highlight of the debate were the three or so minutes in which a fly stubbornly stayed parked on Mike Pence's immaculately coiffured white hair, and nobody saw fit to warn him about it. Lastly it has to be mentioned that Pence repeated Trump's refusal to ensure a peaceful transition of power if the Republicans were to lose the November elections; democracy, or what's left of it, isn't save in their hands, so go out and vote, use your democratic power to vote them out. I'll leave you with the debate in full, for those of you that missed it and for some reason want to watch this second train-wreck of a debate.

It seems we will be spared another debate that was planned for next week between Trump and Biden. Not because Trump is ill with covid-19; he's made a point of showing the world how "strong" he is by leaving the hospital early, theatrically tearing of his mask and telling his supporters to not fear the virus... No, next week's debate would be held online and Trump chickened out of it. Watch this short video to learn what his cowardly reasons are;
