Debating Playground

Well... That was a disaster. I'm talking about the first 2020 presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden of course. What a train-wreck. For Joe it became harder to speak in clear, coherent sentences towards the end of the debate, but that's really the only criticism I have on that side. Trump however... geez I can not understand why anyone still takes this fascist clown seriously; he was most of the reason why this debate can only be qualified as completely insane...

"I'm urging my supporters to go in to the polls and watch very carefully, because that's what has to happen. I am urging them to do it. As you know today there was a big problem; in Philadelphia they went in to watch, they were called poll-watchers, a very safe, very nice thing. They were thrown out. They weren't allowed to watch. You know why? Because bad things happened in Philadelphia, bad things. And I'm urging, I am urging my people, I hope it's gonna be a fair election, if it's a fair election I am 100% on board, but if I see tens of thousands of ballots being manipulated, I can't go along with that."

This is what Trump had to say during the final part of the debate when both candidates were asked about any concerns they had toward mail-in ballots. In my post Disdain For Dissent two days ago I mentioned a gathering a saw online:

...just yesterday I saw a protest organized by the white supremacist Proud Boys where they promised to "safeguard" the integrity of the November elections by guarding polling booths with their armed presence.

And now Trump seamlessly slides into the role of the white supremacists' strongman leader, by calling on them to carefully watch the polls. Earlier in the debate he was asked, once again, to unequivocally condemn the racists who openly throw their support behind Trump, and have also caused much of the violence during the recent protests and he once again failed to do so. When asked to call on these supporters to stop their violence, Trump didn't ask these supporters to stand down, but asked them to "stand by". This man is a fascist who loves his Neo-Nazi supporters.

During the entire debate Trump acted without honor or respect, not once did he let Biden answer a question without interrupting. He was so obnoxious that Chris Wallace, the moderator, had to constantly restrain him and at one point even had to remind him that his campaign agreed to the debate rules. Rules he clearly never had any intention of honoring because he had no substantial arguments, like is usually the case, and had to rely on the tactic of verbal steamrolling, gish-galloping and constantly interrupting and talking over the other. For the rest, all Trump had were lies and a blatant disdain for science regarding climate change.

For those of you who missed it, the debate is shown in full in the below linked video, with some leftists commenting before and after the debate. The most painful segment was also the least consequential when it comes to the proposed policies of these candidates, which was the part about Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden. Biden didn't handle this very well, disastrous in fact, when his campaign should have prepared him for this, for Trump was bound to jump on this chance to criticize Biden, and to be honest I can't blame him for that because Biden is as corrupt as almost any other politician. But he isn't a fascist, and he should have turned Trump's criticism immediately around by talking about how Trump has handed his children millions during his presidency. Instead sleepy Joe Biden kept denying all the allegations and even said he was proud of his son for overcoming his severe drug-addiction; we can be sure that this will land in clips that'll be shared wildly on social media... Well, watch the train-wreck for yourself if you want, I've seen enough; no matter the outcome of the elections, Trump will always think he has won and steal the elections if necessary.
