Anti And Pro FBI Nonsense

Today I'd like to briefly comment on the ridiculous and completely out-of-touch reactions I see on the FBI raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Not just from the conservatives, but from liberals and progressives as well.

Yeah, left and right both miss the point in their response to this raid. To understand why, it's important to know a little bit about the FBI's recent history and the role they've played in American politics. You see, the FBI, and the CIA and NSA for that matter, have always existed to prevent leftism to get a foothold in America or anywhere else in the world. The jubilant reactions coming from liberals and leftists are just crazy. I can understand feeling a sense of justice done when anyone or any institution saws at the legs of the criminal and authoritarian dictator-wannabee that is Donald Trump, but we best keep in mind that this is done only to to prevent the worst kind of extreme right-wing, Christian nationalist, white supremacist fascism to destroy what little trust in the status-quo is left among American moderates.

It's equally mind-boggling to see conservatives suddenly call for defunding, dismantling or abolishing the FBI, and for the same reason. The GOP, the party of conservatives who like nothing more than for everything to stay the same, or even to revert back to a time when their precious hierarchies were even more pronounced, have never had a greater ally than the FBI. The FBI and CIA have been the sworn enemy of progressivism, leftism, socialism and communism for as long as they've existed, and that hasn't changed. And what's more, all directors of the FBI since J. Edgar Hoover have been Republicans, with the current director, Christopher Wray, having been appointed by Donald Trump himself. Before Hoover there was no FBI; it was called the BOI (Bureau Of Investigation) from its inception in 1908 until Hoover who ruled the bureau from 1924 until 1974. There have been 15 leaders of the FBI since Hoover, but 7 of them were only acting or interim directors (source: Directors, Then and Now).

The FBI has always been a prime weapon in the American war against progressivism, and the Democratic Party can be called "progressive" only in a country that's turned so far to the right as America right now. And the irony is that this extreme move to the right is thanks to the FBI in a large part, as they've effectively undermined most progressive movements and leaders throughout modern American history. The fact the the FBI raided Trump's residence should tell conservatives that Trump has gone too far even for this traditionally anti-leftist and anti-progressive institution. That's a simplification of course because the FBI doesn't exist in a vacuum, but I believe you get my point. If only conservatives were telling the truth when they call for dismantling the FBI, left and right would be able to agree on that point at least. But they don't mean a word of it, and I hope the above explains why.
