Sport day at school, with a twist!!!

avatar

Being the sport manager at our school, it has been very difficult engaging the kids with physical activities that are actually allowed. Normal after school activities used to include netball, hockey, soccer, cricket, archery and cross country. When Covid struck, my very busy after school life, turned to basically nothing!

Soooo… I decided to take on the challenge to invent a sport day at school, which was not only fun, but would get the kids back in to the school spirit and active again, while still applying the normal Covid rules that our country enforces currently.

Therefore, POTATO DAY was born!

Meet Bob the potato

Each child had to bring their own potato and name them, they used their own potato during all the different stations that we created. Some even got creative and decorated them!

These were the different stations:

Potato spoon race: Normal race from one end of the field to the other, while balancing your potato on your spoon.

Potato bowling: It’s all in the name 😊

Potato waddle race: Squeeze the potato between your knees

And lastly, the best station of all, coloring Mr. Charli…

The kids had to throw their potato at the target and if it hit the centre, Mr Charli was doused in powdered paint. He luckily managed to get revenge on a few of the learners!!!

Covid has really impacted the schooling system so negatively, our learners are almost forgetting what it is like to be kids, so by organizing safe, fun events for them at school, they get that little bit of normality back in their lives.

###### This is the reason I love being a teacher, making a difference in each one of these amazing kids' lives!!!
