Yesterday I wrote about dyscalculia, which is a symptom of difficulty arising in children. Now, I want to write one of the other symptoms that children have and very closely related to the learning process, namely dyslexia. If yesterday related to mathematical numbers and symbols, then now the relation with words or letters.

  • What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a symptom that attacks children marked by difficulty reading, spelling, writing, and also difficulties in getting to know words and letters. This condition is caused by the child's laziness to learn, or their level of intelligence is low, but rather caused by the influence of the brain that is late to respond to every word seen.

Dyslexia is not a disease that is categorized as a mental disorder, this is just a condition in which students' brains are late in recognizing, analyze, and translate words, or the image being viewed.

What causes dyslexia?

The symptoms of dyslexia are very difficult to see, and most parents only know this symptom when the child is a new school. For parents, here are some symptoms of dyslexia that occur in children.

  • Difficult to recognize words
Children with dyslexia are very difficult to recognize words, even tend to be wrong in recognizing the same form of words.

*Difficulty saying a long word
at least Treasury owned by children makes them very difficult to pronounce, read along with word or sentence.

  • Difficult learning the alphabet.
In studying the alphabet the child will experience difficulties, this is one of the symptoms of dyslexia that parents should recognize. Children with this symptom will be confused.

Those are some of the symptoms that are easy for us to recognize, besides that there are also several other symptoms such as difficulty processing and understanding what is heard, difficult to recognize words that are not common, slow at spelling, and reading, often writing upside down.

Diagnosis of Dyslexia:

If there are symptoms that I have mentioned above, then to diagnose a person with dyslexia we need to consider the following factors:

  • The situation and condition of the house.
The doctor or expert will ask the family's condition, including family members who live together, do you have family problems?

  • Medical History
This is related to genes, whether other family members such as parents also suffer from the same symptoms.

  • Nerve examination.
Perform blood function tests to check whether dyslexia is related to nerve function of the brain, eyes, and hearing.

  • Academic test
Patients will undergo academic tests that are analyzed by experts in their fields to prove the patient suffering from dyslexia.

What should parents do?
For parents, don't panic if your child has dyslexia. You can consult with a doctor and experts to treat this symptom. Because they know how to handle it properly for dyslexia.

Schools can also be involved in handling students with dyslexia so that they still gain knowledge from school. Never stay away and leave dyslexic children, give them motivation so that he can stay motivated in his life.
